The Mahindra Thar 2WD is launched in India, available with both petrol and diesel engine options.
The new Mahindra Thar 1.5 two-wheel-drive (2WD) has been launched in India at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs. 9.99 lakh. The bookings of the SUV have begun, and the deliveries will start on January 14, 2023. It will be available in three variants, with four old and two new color options: Aqua Marine, Red Rage, Galaxy Grey, Blazing Bronze, Everest White, and Napoli Black, with upgraded designs and features.
In terms of design, the Mahindra Thar 2WD remains near identical to the standard Thar, save for the four-wheel-drive (4x4) badge on the fenders. On the inside, the cabin too remains similar except for the removal of the 4x4 gear selector level. It has the same roof-mounted speakers, similar dashboard design, reclining rear seats, and the same 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen system. The rear armrest will be equipped with a USB charging port and cup holders for greater comfort and convenience. On the safety side of things, it has acquired 4-Stars in adult and child safety rating by Global NCAP, equipped with antilock braking system (ABS), front Airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), and a roll cage among others.
Coming to the powertrain options, the Mahindra Thar 2WD will be equipped with the same 2.0-liter mStallion turbo-petrol engine, producing 150bhp and 320Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic unit. In addition, the new diesel engine is the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder unit producing 115 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. The brand-new 2WD Thar will rival the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
