Traffic rules are for public safety. Indian Motor Vehicle Act allows state road transport authorities to enforce such rules to maintain traffic, avoid accidents, control traffic jams and noise pollution in restricted areas and keep the public safe. If you are found guilty of breaking traffic rules, you receive challans and other fines as per the MVA 1988.
These challans were updated, and the fine was increased heavily after the amendments in traffic rules. The states of Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura have accepted the revised rules and implemented them.
Why the new changes as per the new motor vehicle act 2019?
Many significant changes in challan penalties for violation of traffic rules got implemented. New fines and serious penalties got imposed for drunken driving or driving without a licence. The high fines make the public take traffic rules more seriously.
Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state in Northeast India, with hilly and mountainous roads and tourist traffic, whereas Tripura is a small state with a lot of rainfall. Being a small state, Tripura has less road traffic.
The traffic police encourage the local public to maintain traffic by organising educational programs and seminars for students and the general public. Both states have implemented the penalties of the new MVA 2019 to improve road safety.
