Documents You Should Carry While Driving A Car To Avoid Challan

Documents you should carry while driving a car to avoid challan

Documents you should carry while driving a car to avoid challan:

With the stringent traffic rules in the country, it is a wise idea to carry all the necessary documents required while driving to avoid getting challans. Not having the needed documents can lead you to pay heavy challans. So take note, here's how to avoid challans and carry this list of documents with you while driving.

Driving License

An essential (and apparent) document to have while driving, you must always have your RTO-approved driving license with you. If you are caught violating road rules or driving with a license, you can be issued with an online traffic challan or even a physical one.

Registration Certificate of your vehicle

A pertinent document to prove the validity of your vehicle as your own, you should always carry your car's registration certificate (RC). As per the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, it is mandatory for you to have an RC for a vehicle bought by you. The e-challan Parivahan can issue fines if you're found driving without one. Your RC contains essential information about your car, including the vehicle number, and chassis number, among others.

PUC certificate

To meet the emission requirements of your vehicle defined for Indian roads, you need pollution under control certificate (PUC). Get your car checked at any authorized testing centre to obtain the certificate. They can easily be found at all petrol pumps too. The challan traffic police can issue you a fine if you don't have a PUC certification for your vehicle.

Car insurance policy

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, all citizens must drive with a third-party coverage or policy. Car insurance provides monetary assistance if you are in an accident or your car breaks down. Many third-party providers offer insurance with different coverages for your car. Check your policy document to know more. The challan issued by Delhi traffic police has this provision where one can be jailed or pay a fine if they do not have a car insurance policy.

Other driving permits

Driving permits might vary if you are travelling interstate. If you are visiting another city other than the one your vehicle belongs to, make sure you have the necessary permits. If you have these documents, you can avoid getting challans issues. In other cases, however, check your e-challan status or challan status online to verify that you haven't missed paying them.
