Toyota Belta

The Toyota Belta is a mid-sized sedan based on Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The car is essentially a rebadged version of the popular Maruti Ciaz and takes the same route as Glanza (based on Maruti Baleno) and Urban Cruiser (based on Vitara Brezza).

The Belta, just like the Ciaz, features a modest look, spacious and feature-rich interiors, and a powerful and fuel-efficient engine, all taken from Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. And that’s more than enough to make its case strong.

The sedan will compete against Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus in the market.

The Toyota Belta was first officially revealed in the middle eastern markets in November 2021. The car will be first launched in Egypt, followed by other countries in the middle east.

• The vehicle will be manufactured in India and sold in the Middle East's left-hand drive markets.

• Given that the Japanese brand has discontinued the Yaris sedan in India, Belta is expected to be the replacement for it in this segment.

• The launch date has not been officially announced yet, but looking at the pace at which Toyota is launching the rebadged Maruti vehicles in the market, we can expect Belta to be introduced in India anytime before 2025.

The styling of Belta is conservative, with the same understated approach the Maruti uses to please its customers. However, it looks more mature and smarter.

• The new grille features excessive use of chrome, which is not a bad thing at all. The Belta is expected to feature LED projector headlamps with DRLs and a refurbished bumper design.

• The side profile is clean, with the 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels ramping up the elegance.

• The rear can be easily mistaken for Honda City. The Toyota Belta will feature a black chrome insert, and sport LED taillamps. Except for the badging, the overall exterior profile is identical to Ciaz.

The interiors of the Belta are expected to be welcoming, indulging, elegant, and practical, making an unforgettable experience for the passengers.

• The cabin could feature a dual-tone beige black and beige theme, with the satin-chrome inserts and glossy birch bond wooden layering on the dashboard emphasising the quality.

• There could also be a top-spec variant with an all-black cabin and silver accents on the doors and instruments. The Belta will replace the Yaris in the segment; hence, the comfort level will be of the highest quality. The steering wheel and the seat upholstery will be done in leather.

• Competing in the segment where Honda City and Hyundai Verna already have a huge fan following, the comfort levels have to be top-notch. The Belta could get the same equipment list, which includes features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a 6-speaker music system.

• The instrument cluster will remain the familiar 4.2-inch MID panel, offering a host of information regarding the journey. Then there are opulent features, including an automatic air conditioner, push engine start/stop, powered and foldable ORVMs, automatic headlamps, rear AC vents, and cruise control, giving solid reason to buy this sedan.

• The spacious and airy cabin is quite practical with head restraints for the rear passenger, decent legroom, rear sunshade, front and rear centre armrest, storage pockets on all doors and 510L of enormous boot space.

The upcoming Toyota Belta will get a decent safety cover, making it one of its class's safest cars.

• The sedan is expected to get dual-front airbags with full frontal and side-impact compliance.

• The braking mechanism consists of an anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, preventing wheel lock and ensuring efficient braking.

• Further, an electronic stability program and hill hold assist take care of the stability.

• Reverse parking sensors with camera, ISOFIX child mount seats, day/night IRVM, seat belt reminder, and speed alert system covers complete the all-around safety.

The Belta will get the 1.5L K-series petrol engine sourced from Maruti Ciaz. The engine generates 105 PS and 138 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed AT. The car can also come with mild-hybrid technology as it is being offered in a rebadged Toyota Hyryder.

• While the car is still to be launched in the market, looking at what Ciaz has to offer on the table, we can surely say the performance could be very good. The powertrain is refined and smooth, with the power chipping in decently and low.

• In day-to-day city driving, the engine is responsive, while the performance at higher revs on the highways is adequately quick, with little effort required by the manual gearbox.

• However, the automatic torque converter is average as compared to the manual. But the overall performance of the Toyota Belta automatic should be convenient. The car can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in around 10 seconds, which is pretty impressive.

• The feedback of the steering is light and pleasant, which will prove very good for parking. As far as ride quality is concerned, based on the reviews on Ciaz, the Belta too, could yield superb and compliant rides without breaking a sweat over potholes, speed breakers, and broken roads thanks to the suspension setup, which has been tuned for superior comfort.
