Tata Tiago EV Smart Variant Explained
  • The base Smart variant is available solely with the 19.2kWh battery and a 60bhp electric motor.

  • It is also offered under the Battery-as-a-Service scheme, bringing the entry price down to Rs. 4.69 lakh.

India's Most Affordable Electric Car Gets a New Base Grade

Tata Motors launched the facelifted Tiago EV on May 28, 2026, with prices starting at Rs. 6.99 lakh ex-showroom. For buyers who would rather not pay for the full battery upfront, the model is also available under the Battery-as-a-Service scheme at Rs. 4.69 lakh ex-showroom, a pricing structure that firmly positions it as the most affordable electric car on sale in India today.

The entry point into the range is the Smart variant, and it comes exclusively paired with the 19.2kWh battery pack. Customers who want the larger 24kWh unit will need to step up to one of the higher-grade trims.

The motor produces 60bhp and 110Nm of torque, figures that are modest on paper but well-suited to the urban environments where a car of this size and price is most at home.

Refreshed Exterior Brings a Sharper, More Contemporary Look

On the outside, the Smart trim wears the same facelift updates that define the 2026 range. There are revised front and rear bumpers, a blanked-off grille, and new taillights that feature a faux LED light bar. The tailgate carries Tiago EV lettering, while Tata.EV badges appear on the front doors.

Ride is handled by 14-inch steel wheels, the door mirrors are finished in black, and vertically positioned reflectors round off the rear end. A roof-mounted integrated spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp completes a silhouette that punches above its price point.

Cabin Gets New Tech and a Fresh Interior Theme

Step inside, and the Smart variant greets you with a noticeably updated cabin. The instrument cluster is a new freestanding unit finished in colour, and it sits ahead of a new two-spoke steering wheel bearing an offset Tata EV logo.

A fresh interior theme with contrast-coloured upholstery gives the cabin a more premium feel, supported by a new centre console and rotary gear selector dial.

The tech list is more generous than the price might suggest. Automatic climate control, iRA connected-car technology, and two drive modes, City and Sport, are all present. A tyre pressure monitoring system is also included.

On the safety front, the Smart variant is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, and under-thigh support seats, the last of which makes a genuine difference on longer drives.

Prices and Availability

The 2026 Tata Tiago EV is available in three variants, with the Smart sitting at the base of the lineup at Rs. 6.99 lakh ex-showroom. Under the BaaS scheme, the entry price drops to Rs. 4.69 lakh ex-showroom.
