MG Windsor EV Dashboard Unveiled: A Glimpse into India’s Next Affordable Electric Crossover

MG Motor India is set to expand its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the upcoming launch of the MG Windsor EV, which marks the brand’s third all-electric offering in the country. Positioned strategically between the MG Comet and the MG ZS EV, the Windsor EV is generating significant buzz as it prepares for its official launch on September 11. Recently, MG released a teaser that sheds light on the interior features of this much-anticipated EV, providing a closer look at its dashboard and other key highlights.

A Sneak Peek at the Interior

The teaser video offers a comprehensive view of the Windsor EV’s dashboard, revealing a modern and premium design. The dashboard features a dual-tone color scheme, accented with bronze highlights that echo the design cues from its Indonesian counterpart, the Wuling Cloud EV. Central to the dashboard is a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is expected to support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it a user-friendly interface for tech-savvy drivers.

Just below the touchscreen, sleek central air conditioning vents are seamlessly integrated into the dashboard, enhancing the overall aesthetics while ensuring efficient air distribution within the cabin. The automatic climate control panel is placed further below, flanked by ambient lighting that adds a touch of sophistication to the interior.

In addition to the infotainment system, the Windsor EV also boasts a digital driver display, likely measuring around 8.8 inches, which provides critical driving information at a glance. The flat-bottom steering wheel, equipped with audio and calling controls, further emphasizes the vehicle's modern and driver-focused design.

Feature-Rich Experience

MG has packed the Windsor EV with an array of features that promise to elevate the driving experience. Among these are a panoramic glass roof that brings in natural light and offers a spacious feel, and a wireless phone charging pad for added convenience. The rear seats can recline up to 135 degrees, ensuring comfort for passengers on long journeys.

The EV also comes with electrically adjustable front seats, allowing drivers to find their perfect seating position with ease. The powered tailgate adds a layer of convenience, especially when loading or unloading cargo.

On the safety front, the Windsor EV is expected to be equipped with six airbags as standard, offering comprehensive protection for all occupants. Additional safety features include a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), an electronic parking brake, and a 360-degree camera that provides a bird's-eye view of the surroundings, aiding in tight parking spaces. MG may also introduce some advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), although specific details on these are yet to be confirmed.

Powertrain and Performance

Under the hood, the India-spec MG Windsor EV is expected to feature a 50.6 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor, delivering 136 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. While the Indonesian version of the Wuling Cloud EV claims a range of 460 km, the Indian variant might offer an even greater range, potentially exceeding this figure after undergoing ARAI testing.

This powertrain setup positions the Windsor EV as a practical yet powerful option for urban commutes and highway drives alike. The performance figures suggest that the Windsor EV will be well-suited to Indian driving conditions, offering a blend of efficiency and responsiveness.

Competitive Pricing and Market Position

The MG Windsor EV is expected to be priced starting at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), making it an attractive option for buyers seeking a premium electric crossover without breaking the bank. This pricing places it as a more affordable alternative to the MG ZS EV while offering a step up in terms of features and performance when compared to other electric SUVs like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV.

The Windsor EV is poised to capture the attention of Indian consumers who are increasingly considering electric vehicles for their next purchase, driven by rising fuel prices and a growing emphasis on sustainability. With its combination of advanced features, competitive pricing, and MG’s reputation for quality, the Windsor EV could become a strong contender in the burgeoning EV market in India.

As the launch date approaches, anticipation continues to build around the MG Windsor EV. Its stylish design, feature-rich interior, and promising performance make it a compelling choice for those looking to make the switch to electric mobility. Whether it will set new benchmarks in the segment remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the MG Windsor EV is ready to make a bold statement in the Indian automotive landscape.
