The toll taxes for national highways and expressways were hiked by 4-5 percent on 1st April 2025, and approximately 855 toll plazas have been impacted nationwide, and the increased revenue is to be allocated to highway development.

Toll fares are revised annually by the NHAI under the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. The new toll fare increase affects approximately 855 toll plazas across the country, consisting of 675 public-funded and 180 private contractor-operated ones.

Key routes affected by the hike in toll charges are the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, NH-9, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Delhi-Jaipur Highway, and a few more. Interestingly, this is the second toll charge hike within a one-year timeframe, with the first hike being effectuated in June 2024.
