At the new Vanquish launch, Gautam Dutta, Aston Martin India's general manager of sales, looked back at the commercial success of the brand's current model range. "It's been a balance," he replied, noting that Aston Martin's "performance-focused" brand positioning has served to build "appreciation" for both its sports cars and the DBX.
Dutta also added: "Last year, the DBX provided us with incredible results, but the Vantage was also quite useful in creating a lot of buzz for us. So, it's a balance that we are striking between the SUV and other sports cars” said about the exact split between the models, Dutta reduced it to 50:50.
SUV is being noticed more in Indian Subcontinent
The success of the DBX over other Aston Martin models is not surprising since SUVs are much in demand in India. The same goes for Porsche and Lamborghini, which sell sports cars and SUVs as part of their model lines.
Porsche India's unit sales in 2024 were skewed a massive 71 percent in favor of the Cayenne and Macan, while the remaining 29 percent was cornered by the 911, Panamera, Taycan, 718 Cayman, and Boxster.
Conclusion
Aston Martin's balanced sales split between its SUV and sports cars in India highlights the shifting preferences of luxury car buyers in the region. While the DBX continues to thrive in the booming SUV segment, the brand’s sports car lineup, including the Vantage and DB12, remains highly desirable among enthusiasts. This trend mirrors the broader luxury automotive market, where SUVs have gained significant traction. With the addition of the third-gen Vanquish, Aston Martin aims to maintain this equilibrium, ensuring sustained growth and appeal across both segments.
