RTO Gujarat: Check the Gujarat RTO list & vehicle registration details

Untitled design (24).png

RTO stands for Regional Transport Office. Every state has its own RTO which abides by the Center and State laws. Whether it is RTO Gujarat or an RTO of any other state, the office’s primary job is vehicle registration, granting driving licenses, and managing road laws and regulations.

You need to register with your nearest RTO office once you buy any vehicle, barring low-powered electric two-wheelers. For instance, someone living in Ahmedabad will have their vehicles registered with RTO Ahmedabad.

While car dealers help with the initial RTO processes, there's a lot that you have to do on your own. Nowadays, you can do many RTO tasks online through the mParivahan app or the Parivahan website of the Government of India. Alternatively, you can also the Park+ app to pay your e-challan dues and verify vehicle information.

Why should you register with the RTO?

The only authority in India that has the power to register your vehicle is the RTO. Vehicle Registration does two things. First, it establishes your relationship with the vehicle as its licensed owner. Second, it adds to road safety. For instance, in a case of hit-and-run, the authorities can track the car down using the vehicle number.

You can find an RTO in various districts of Gujarat like RTO Surat, RTO Ahmedabad, etc. Every district has at least one RTO office. Which RTO office your vehicle will be registered with depends on the proximity of where you stay or where the dealer is based.

Nowadays, you don't have to wait in long queues for registration. The RTO Gujarat website allows you to submit your documents for verification easily online. You can simply look for the Gujarat RTO code to locate your nearest RTO.

Importance of RTO

Here are some of the many important functions of RTO-

Tax and Fee Collection

  • Every RTO in India is in charge of Tax and Fee collection related to vehicles. The RTO collects this money on behalf of the government. Furthermore, a district RTO is responsible for collections in its own area.
  • What RTO collects as tax is referred to as MV (Motor Vehicle) Tax.
  • The amount of tax depends on a couple of factors. First, it depends on the size and type of vehicle. Second, it varies from state to state authorities.
  • RTOs also collect IMV (International Multi-purpose Vehicle) payments. In addition to that, RTOs also provide sanctions for government engagements.

Vehicle Registration

  • Registration of vehicles is an RTOs primary job. It also provides transit licenses and NOCs (No Objection Certificates).
  • You will need an NOC for the intrastate transfer of an automobile license from one RTO to another. This will allow a vehicle in one state to drive in another state.
  • If a vehicle is resold, RTO is responsible for updating the new driver and license information.
  • To register your vehicle check out the Gujarat RTO list and visit the nearest transport office.

Road Safety

In addition to abiding by traffic rules, RTOs also need to enforce them. This means they must check on over-speeding and flouting of other traffic rules. All drivers and RTOs must follow the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Basic safety precautions should be taken on the road at all times. Having vehicle insurance is also important. RTOs keep a track of third-party insurance on the registered vehicles. If a car is found without insurance, its license and registration could be canceled.

Issuing of Driving License

  • Apart from vehicle registration, RTOs also arrange driver‘s licenses. A driver’s license is required to drive an automobile. It is a proof of your skill as a driver. This ensures the safety of everyone on the road.
  • RTOs organize driving tests (both written and practical). They also collect information and verify the documents. If a driver clears every round, they receive their driver’s license. The responsibility of granting licenses lies with the RTO offices alone.

In Conclusion

In the past, it'd often be difficult and time-consuming to get RTO tasks done. Fortunately, now you avail most RTO facilities remotely from your home. This is possible due to the big strides that the government has taken to digitize RTO processes. Visit RTO Gujarat's website or download the Park+ app. It will keep track of your eChallan and RTO demands.
