The Odisha traffic department has introduced a heavy penalty of Rs. 7000, if someone is seen overspeeding. The speed limits on major roads in Odisha have been set to 50kmp so as to increase the safety of commuters and people on the road. An e-challan will also be issued where traffic violators can pay the penalty online. Apart from assisting in online payments of e-challan and vehicle taxes, the e-challan Odisha will also display the driver's background, and repeat offenders will face increased penalties. The vehicle check report (VCR) will be generated on the spot by the mobile e-challan device, eliminating the need for a manual VCR form.

A vehicle e-challan is a computer-generated challan issued by the Traffic Police to all traffic violators in India who are caught by the CCTV installed on the city roads and highways.
