An estimated 4 crore devotees are looking forward to taking a holy dip in the divine place of Prayagraj where the 3 major rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati merge on the dates of 13th and 14th January till date 26 Feb 2025.
The Maha Kumbh Mela security is supported with the help of a seven-ring security plan which is AI-enabled to ensure the utmost safety of the pilgrims. Mela authorities have made a rough estimate that one crore devotees are looking forward to taking a holy dip on the auspicious day of Makar Sankranti.
To avoid congestion and ensure the utmost safety, the entire Kumbh Mela is declared a no-vehicle zone and traffic diversions were carried out across all the possible routes leading to the Maha Sangam.
A network of around 2700 CCTV cameras is being installed which around 328 are equipped with AI-enabled technologies to increase Kumbh Mela security and are being installed across the mela grounds and the main tent city, to streamline this process advanced cameras with AI-powered data analytics have been introduced for robust surveillance.

Additional Director General of Prayagraj Zone, Bhanu Bhaskar said in a press conference that they have implemented a robust seven tier kumbh mela security plan which includes multiple cordons such as inner and outer cordons and isolation along with district and inter-state checkpoints. He also said that prominent public spaces including the religious spots across the city have been brought under strict security measures.
13 additional temporary police stations have been created making the total count of police stations 57 and 15 extra checkpoints in both rural and urban areas to ensure utmost security during the pious event. He also mentioned that a dedicated team of monitoring and implementation of AI-driven data analytics have also been deployed. Security arrangements for devotees in Maha Kumbh 2025
In line with the CM’s directives, the police have set up a circular security system with 102 checkpoints along various critical routes. The security includes the checks and frisking of vehicles and individuals to increase Kumbh Mela's security.
DGP of police Prashant Kumar said that around 40,000 police personnel along with cybercrime personnel have created a surveillance system powered by AI to protect and help navigate the sea of humanity at the site.
DGP also emphasized that UP police are committed to ensuring the safety of all participants.
Additionally, Park+ a leading parking solutions is contributing to automate the parking process for devotees with the help of AI-enabled algorithms and increase the Kumbh Mela security.
Additional resources have been dedicated to security, with 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, 645 constables, and 113 Home Guards/PRD (Prantiya Rakshak Dal) jawans actively monitoring the event.
To increase the effectiveness of surveillance, five Vajra vehicles and 10 drones are deployed and will patrol the area around the clock 24/7 to elevate the level of security.

In a very thought move, The UP Police have deployed underwater drones which are equipped with advanced levels of imaging technology to patrol the riverbed at the confluence of the three rivers.
