Volkswagen, the maker of that beetle that changed affordable mobility, now prepares to conjure something similar in the electric vehicle (EV). The German brand has declared it will make nine new models by the end of the year 2027-including both internal and hybrids in addition to all-electric vehicles. Four of these will be some of the most promising new EVs to enhance the brand's presence in the growing electric mobility sector.
At the heart of this ambitious lineup lies the ID. EVERY1, an entry-level EV that has just been previewed as a show car. It would aim to democratize electric mobility with a price tag of approximately €20,000, which would translate to around ₹18 lakh.
Production of this version is expected to start in 2027, generating a fleet built on Volkswagen's MEB front-wheel-drive platform, which will provide efficient space utilization and optimized driving dynamics.
Affordable Electric Mobility: ID. EVERY1 and ID. 2all
Volkswagen is putting its 'affordability' theme into action with both new ids. EVERY1 and ID. 2all - budget-friendly electric vehicles. Priced at around €25,000 (approx. ₹22 lakh), ID. 2all will be available to purchase starting in 2026, while the ID. EVERY1 will debut in 2027 as one of Europe's most affordable EVs.
The ID. EVERY1 houses a 95bhp electric motor, which, at full speed, should allow the little car to reach a top speed of 130 km/h while being able to typically cover at least 250 km between charges. While further specifics concerning the battery have yet to emerge, Volkswagen has promised that this model will boast an efficient and long-lived powertrain.
Affordability will go hand in hand with technology and software advances. ID. EVERY1 will be the first model under a completely new software architecture for usage in the car, bringing it ongoing updates and new functions all through its lifecycle.
Volkswagen's strategy for electrification and global plans
Volkswagen has a very bright future, especially for its European scenery, which is important to the brand. The company is committed to providing a wide range of petrol and hybrid cars straight to the all-electric vehicle offerings. All these new EVs find a place in the wider electrification strategy Volkswagen has for various segments and budgets.
In fact, by the end of the year 2027, the nine new vehicles will be accompanied by multiple electric and hybrid options. This is meant to strengthen the multi-dimensional commitment to sustainable mobility and the drive towards reduced carbon emissions. It will save on cost as well.
What This Means for Indian Buyers
However Volkswagen hasn't yet confirmed the possibility of launching the ID. EVERY1 or the ID. 2all in India, it has been quite active in exploring and setting up the EV market in India. There is a good chance that some of these reasonably priced EVs might be brought into the Indian market because of the increasing demand for cheap electric cars in India.
In India, ID. EVERY1 could rival the upcoming affordable EVs from Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai by offering an international alternative with the engineering excellence and reliability that Volkswagen is known for.
