Toyota Urban Cruiser Showcased At GIIAS 2025!

Recently, at Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2025, Toyota showcased its upcoming electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser EV. This new model is the updated version of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, which is expected to be launched in India soon. This vehicle is developed as a part of the ongoing partnership between the two Japanese carmaking companies.

First Look At Toyota’s New Electric SUV

The new version by Toyota is the brand’s version of the electric SUV, partnered and co-developed with Maruti Suzuki, which makes it similar looking to the Suzuki Escudo. But it also has distinct design elements, which are unique to Toyota.

Some of its interior and exterior features are listed below:

  • Hammerhead-style grille

  • 360-degree cameras

  • Sharper and flatter LED headlamps and LED DRLs

  • Pixel-style turn indicators

  • More contemporary bonnet design and distinctive air dam

  • Body-coloured door handles

  • ORVMs with integrated turn signals

  • 10.25-inch digital instruments display

  • A 10.1-inch touchscreen and a JBL sound system

Similarities with the Maruti eVitara (Escudo)

As the Toyota Urban Cruiser is produced in partnership with, it has similar features to the eVitara (Escudo), some of which are:

  • Charging port just above the front fender on the left side

  • Same design of the aero wheel

  • Similar tail lamps with minor changes in the detailing

  • A shark fin antenna with roof roof-mounted spoiler

  • Heavily raked windshield and rear wiper

Range, Powertrain and More

As of now, the range has not officially been revealed, but it is expected out of the base variant (49 kWh, single motor FWD) and (61 kWh, single motor FWD) to have a range of 300km, and 400km respectively.

The dual-motor AWD with the 61-kWh battery will have a range of 350km. This new model of EV will also support fast charging of up to 150 kW. Talking about the powertrain, the Urban Cruiser EV also comes with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, along with multiple battery options.

Toyota’s EV Strategy for India

Toyota has been committed to expanding its EV lineup in India, and the unveiling of the Urban Cruiser EV reflects that. As of now, the brand’s large focus lies on strong hybrids like this new upcoming model or Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This new launch will compete with Maruti e-Vitara, Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, etc., and this also marks the first all-electric model in their mainstream segment.
