An overview of the arrival date and mode of the Mercedes-Benz GLB in India.
Important changes to the interior, powertrain, and design of the new GLB, as well as what Indian consumers should anticipate.
With a few restrictions, the new Mercedes-Benz GLB, which has been unveiled worldwide, will arrive in India. While the SUV will be available in electric (EV), mild hybrid, and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions worldwide, only the petrol and diesel versions—imported as complete built-up units (CBU) - are anticipated to be available in India.
Mercedes' innovative "MMA" architecture, which accommodates EV, mild hybrid, and conventional combustion powertrains, is the foundation for the most recent GLB produced worldwide.
However, the brand plans to launch the GLB exclusively in ICE versions for the Indian market for the time being, much like its previous iteration. This is likely due to the lower volume expectations compared to its EV brother.
This implies that Indian consumers shouldn't anticipate the EV and hybrid models right away, even though they might sell internationally.
The second-generation GLB has a more striking, contemporary appearance. It has an intimidating aspect because to its wide grille with the recognizable three-pointed star and linked LED headlamps.
The side profile is still upright and expertly sculpted, but there are some notable modifications to the rear: the tail-lamp design has changed from the previous model's form to a more modern connected light bar and inverted-U shape.
These style features demonstrate that the GLB has been revised to reflect contemporary design trends while maintaining its character as a Mercedes SUV.
The new GLB's enhanced interior is one of its main selling factors. The SUV is larger overall, measuring roughly 98 mm in length, 27 mm in width, and 60 mm in wheelbase. This results in more roomy seating and simpler access to the third row.
With a three-screen configuration and Mercedes' new MB.OS operating system, the dashboard has the newest appearance in the family. A tall center console with a combination of touch and tactile controls is present. It is now easier to enter the third row because the seats in the second row move and recline more effectively.
With these modifications, the GLB is now more affordable for families looking for a high-end seven-seater without having to buy a big SUV.
EV and mild-hybrid versions of the new GLB will be available internationally. With an 85 kWh battery, the electric GLB's 2WD version can travel up to 631 km on the WLTP cycle.
On higher trim levels, the EV also offers twin-motor AWD configurations and 800V fast charging infrastructure.
There are also plans for a 48-volt mild hybrid powertrain with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, and a tiny electric motor. The system will use the battery's reserve to provide a brief pure-electric drive under light load.
Nevertheless, the manufacturer has stated that for the time being, the Indian launch will only include traditional gasoline and diesel models.
You might have to wait a very long time if you were hoping for an EV or hybrid GLB in India. The new GLB will be a seven-seater SUV that runs solely on gasoline or diesel when it reaches here, most likely as a fully imported CBU.
However, because there aren't many direct competitors offering the same mix, its improved design, roomy cabin, and high-end amenities make it a desirable choice for consumers searching for a small, luxurious SUV with three rows.
The new GLB is obviously on its way, even though the debut date in India is still unknown. Keep an eye out for announcements from the business.
