Renault Duster Evolution 1.0 Turbo Petrol Arrives at Dealerships Across India
  • The Renault Duster Evolution variant is now physically available at dealerships, making it one of the first trims in the new Duster range that buyers can walk in and inspect.

  • The Evolution is the first variant to offer meaningful powertrain flexibility, unlocking access to the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine alongside manual and DCT gearbox choices.

Renault introduced the new Duster in India in March this year, with prices starting at Rs. 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The entry-level variants have now begun arriving at local dealers across the country.

For prospective buyers who have been waiting to see the car in the metal rather than on a screen, that wait is over.

Where the Evolution Sits in the Duster Lineup

The Evolution is the second trim in the Duster's range, positioned directly above the entry-level Authentic. It is also the first variant in the lineup that unlocks meaningful powertrain flexibility, making it a significant step up from the base offering.

The Authentic trim, which sits beneath it, is limited to a single combination of a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Duster is offered in five trims overall - Authentic, Evolution, Techno, Techno+, and Iconic. Further, the availability of powertrains varies across these variants. The Evolution, therefore, occupies a rather deliberate middle ground.

A 1.0-Litre Turbo with Room to Upgrade

The unit seen arriving at dealerships is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor, paired only with a six-speed manual transmission, priced at Rs. 11.69 lakh before taxes. Notably, this variant is also available with the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol mill, paired with six-speed manual and DCT units.

Buyers who opt for the 1.3-litre turbo DCT version of the Evolution receive a handful of additional features specific to that configuration, including an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function, steering-mounted paddle shifters, and a slightly revised centre console layout. The key fob on this variant also includes a boot release button.

The Numbers Under the Bonnet

The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, dubbed the Turbo TCe 100 by Renault, produces 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque. It gets three driving modes in Eco, Comfort, and Perso, along with an engine start-stop button.

What the Evolution Brings to the Table in Terms of Features

On the outside, the Evolution variant comes equipped with LED headlamps and DRLs, LED tail lights, an LED light bar at the rear, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The interior gets black upholstery with grey stitching, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, all power windows with auto up/down function, a fully digital colour instrument cluster, cruise control, and a reverse camera.

A Hybrid Still on the Horizon

Renault has confirmed that a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain is in the pipeline, expected to make its debut during the upcoming festive season later this year, further expanding the SUV's appeal to eco-conscious buyers. For now, the turbo-petrol variants are doing the heavy lifting in showrooms.

The Verdict on Value

The Duster Evolution makes a reasonable case for itself as the variant that offers the best balance of features and price within the Duster lineup. For buyers who do not require the bells and whistles of the top-spec variants but want more than the bare minimum, the Evolution appears to be the pragmatic choice that Renault has positioned quite deliberately at the centre of the range.
