Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 Coupe India Launch Confirmed for 2027
The Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 Coupe, unveiled in February 2026, is confirmed to arrive in India in the second half of 2027.
It is powered by a 449hp, 3.0-litre inline-six mild-hybrid engine and is the first AMG SUV to feature a drift mode.
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to introduce the AMG GLC 53 Coupe in India, with the launch expected in the second half of 2027. The model will be the first variant of the second-generation GLC in India to feature a six-cylinder engine, marking a meaningful step forward from the AMG GLC 43 Coupe that currently holds the performance baton in the lineup.
Beneath the bonnet of the GLC 53 sits a 3.0-litre inline-six turbocharged petrol engine producing 449hp and 600Nm of torque, with the figure rising to 640Nm during a 10-second overboost at 5,200rpm.
A 48V mild-hybrid system works alongside it, contributing an additional 23hp and 205Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic gearbox, and Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of just 4.2 seconds. That is a full 0.6 seconds quicker than the existing AMG GLC 43 Coupe, which makes do with a 421hp, 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.
The engine itself is a heavily updated version of the unit found in other AMG products, featuring new cylinder heads, reworked intake and exhaust ports, a new intake camshaft, a larger-volume intake system, and a new intercooler.
Perhaps the most talking-point feature of the GLC 53 is something no AMG SUV has offered before. It gets a powered rear-axle limited-slip differential paired with a Drift Mode, available as part of the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package. This is made possible by the inclusion of the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.
Beyond the drama of drift mode, the car is also equipped with rear-axle steering and adaptive dampers to sharpen everyday dynamics. A new exhaust system with special resonators gives the six-cylinder a deeper, more characterful note. The driver also gets five modes to choose from, namely Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
In keeping with AMG tradition, the GLC 53 Coupe gets aerodynamic updates across the body, carbon fibre trims both inside and outside the cabin, and 21-inch forged alloy wheels as standard equipment.
At present, the AMG GLC 43 Coupe is priced from Rs 99.85 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The arrival of the GLC 53 will naturally command a premium over that, bringing with it a significant jump not just in power and technology, but also in character.
For buyers who want something more visceral than a standard luxury SUV, the wait for the second half of 2027 now has a very clear purpose.
