Mahindra Thar Vs Thar Roxx The Ultimate Showdown Between Classic Adventure And Modern Comfort

Mahindra Thar vs. Thar Roxx: The Ultimate Showdown Between Classic Adventure and Modern Comfort

Mahindra’s latest addition to its Thar lineup, the Thar Roxx, has set the stage for an exciting comparison with the beloved 3-door Thar. With a starting price of Rs 12.99 lakh for the Roxx and introductory prices that are expected to rise, potential buyers are faced with a compelling choice between the rugged appeal of the classic Thar and the new Roxx, which aims to blend modern comfort with the iconic Thar spirit. Here’s an in-depth look at how these two models stack up in terms of size, engine specs, and boot space.

Design and Styling

The design differences between the Thar and Thar Roxx are more than skin-deep. While both models retain the Thar’s adventurous essence, the Roxx introduces several enhancements that cater to a more family-oriented audience. The Roxx features a striking new front grille and is equipped with C-shaped LED DRLs and LED headlamps and taillamps, even in its base variants. The side profile showcases distinctive diamond-cut alloy wheels, longer and wider running boards, and squared-off rear wheel arches.

One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of a rear quarter glass, which sets the Roxx apart from its 3-door counterpart. With seven color options available compared to the Thar’s five, the Roxx offers a broader palette for personalization. Its increased dimensions—443 mm longer, wider, and taller than the standard Thar—provide a more commanding road presence and improved visibility, making it a versatile choice for both urban and rural driving.

Features and Comfort

When it comes to features, the Thar Roxx pulls ahead with a host of premium amenities that elevate the driving experience. Notable upgrades include a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated seats, and a top-of-the-line Harman Kardon sound system. The Roxx also boasts an advanced digital cockpit with twin 26.03 cm screens and seamless wireless connectivity through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Safety is another area where the Roxx shines, incorporating driver, passenger, side, and curtain airbags as standard across all variants. Additionally, it comes equipped with 10 Level 2 ADAS features, offering a significant enhancement in driver assistance technology compared to the Thar.

Powertrain Options

Under the hood, the Thar Roxx offers a more powerful engine lineup compared to the 3-door Thar. The Roxx is available with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine in three different tunes: 152 PS / 330 Nm, 162 PS / 330 Nm, and 177 PS / 380 Nm. The 2.2-litre diesel engine is available in two outputs: 152 PS / 330 Nm and 175 PS / 370 Nm. Both engines come with a choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic, catering to various driving preferences.

In contrast, the 3-door Thar features a 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 118 PS and 300 Nm, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.2-litre diesel engine delivers 132 PS and 300 Nm, while the 2.0-litre petrol engine provides 152 PS and 300 Nm. Transmission options are the same as the Roxx’s, but with the Roxx’s higher power outputs, it promises a more robust performance.

Pricing and Value

The Thar 3-door model remains the more cost-effective option, with prices ranging from Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh. The Thar Roxx, with its enhanced features and size, starts at Rs 12.99 lakh for the RWD variant, with the top-spec RWD variant priced at Rs 20.49 lakh. The prices for Roxx’s 4WD variants are yet to be announced, but they are expected to be higher.

Conclusion

The choice between the Thar and Thar Roxx ultimately depends on individual needs and preferences. The Thar remains a favorite among adventure enthusiasts with its classic design and capable off-road performance. Meanwhile, the Thar Roxx caters to those seeking a blend of modern luxury, advanced features, and a more substantial road presence. Whether you prioritize rugged adventure or refined comfort, Mahindra’s latest offerings provide compelling options for every type of driver.
