Kia India will enter the mass-market EV segment this year. For now, the Korean automaker is only competing in the premium electric vehicle segment with the EV6 and EV9. The brand's electric bandwagon will begin with the introduction of the Carens EV in the months to come, and then the formal launch of the Syros EV by the end of this year.
With these two new EVs, Kia is going to increase its portfolio, and it is aiming at two new segments.
Let's see the details of the new Kia Carens EV and Syros EV.
Kia Carens EV
Kia has been developing the electric Carens and the test mule has been seen several times in India. Set to hit the market in mid-2025, the Carens EV will be based on the same design as the Carens Facelift that is launching later this month. There will be electric-specific design changes though, like a blanked-off front grille, aero-efficient wheels, EV badging inside out, and more.
Though details of the powertrain are not available as of now, it is likely to use the battery pack and electric motor of the Hyundai Creta Electric. The power figures may vary and we anticipate a claimed range of more than 400 kilometres per charge from the electric MPV.
The Carens EV will be India's first mass-market electric MPV. Since there is no direct competition, the electric Carens will compete with Hyundai Creta Electric, MG Windsor EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the soon-to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki e Vitara among others.
Kia Syros EV
Kia released the Syros in the Indian market in February 2025 and shortly afterward, the news of Syros EV development began making rounds on the internet. If all goes according to plan, the electric SUV is expected to make its debut in the Indian market sometime in early 2026.
The ICE Syros is founded upon the strengthened K1 platform, and the all-electric model that is to be launched later will probably share the same underpinnings but with a few changes to support the electric drivetrain.
We expect the Syros EV to get new bumpers, new aero-efficient alloy wheels, and some EV-specific badging, with the headlamps, tail lamps, chunky side body cladding, and flush-door handles being shared as is. While no details on the battery pack are shared, the Syros will have a claimed range of around 400 kilometers on a full charge. The Kia Syros EV will compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400 EV upon launch.
Conclusion
Kia will make a grand entry into the mass-market EV space with the launch of the Carens EV and Syros EV. With the Carens EV being launched as India's first mass-market electric MPV and the Syros EV being an addition to Kia's electric SUV family, the brand is already set to become a major player in the new EV space. The new models will come with contemporary design, competitive range, and state-of-the-art technology, making them serious players in their respective segments. As the Indian EV market continues to grow, Kia's new electric models are sure to create a lot of interest among buyers seeking practical and stylish electric cars.
