With the introduction of its Super E-Platform, BYD takes electric vehicle charging to the next level. Offering an unprecedented 1,000 kW charging speed, the platform enables a 400 km range in just five minutes—twice as fast as Tesla’s current technology.
BYD’s Super E-Platform: The Future of Ultra-Fast EV Charging
BYD has announced to the world in a live webcast feed from its Shenzhen headquarters that it has invented the Super E-Platform, an all-new generation EV charging technology that can turn the industry inside out. The technology has 1,000 kW charging speeds, so electric vehicles can travel 400 km (249 miles) within only five minutes. This means that a car can gain over 1 km of range for every second of charging-car. Charging time is reduced significantly and takes a giant leap toward making it feasible for possible EV users.
Even with all the rapid growth, long charging time is still one of the reasons electric people refuse to adopt the car. The whole idea behind BYD's innovation is to overcome the whole concept; it almost makes the charging similar to refueling a gas car.
Twice Faster than the Charging Technology of Tesla
The Super E-Platform is one of the most critical features that promises to have a pace beyond Tesla's current technology for charging. Tesla's Supercharger maxes out at 500 kW, BYD can charge up to 1,000 kW-therefore it's twice as fast. That would ideally put BYD in front of the fast-charging race, giving it a nice advantage in the global electric vehicle market.
The Super E-Platform is set to be a basic feature of the next generation of EV models in the near future. These two newly launched vehicles open for pre-order in China are Han L sedan and Tang L SUV. Officially, they will be released in early April 2025 and will feature: A 1000V high-voltage architecture; 10C charging technology allowing full charge in just six minutes Acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just two seconds.
The Han L EV sedan will use an 83.2 kWh LFP battery similar to that found in the BYD Sealion 7 recently launched in India. BYD's Plans for National Fast-charging Expansion.
As for its Super E-Platform, BYD will invest in fast charging stations across the country. The company has plans for installing over 4,000 ultra-fast charging stations in China to ensure that even in areas with lower power capacity, this phenomenal charging power of 1,000 kW is made accessible.
Blade Batteries: Key to Fast Charging
These charging stations will also host energy storage facilities to ensure that power availability is constant at the different locations. Blade batteries; the fastest charging type of battery in BYD's Super E-Platform both help to speed up ion transfer and reduce resistance.
Thus, faster charging times are achieved. BYD accepts that its batteries can now fully charge at a 10C charging multiplier in merely 1/10 th of an hour (six minutes); this is the quickest time in the industry.
How BYD’s Innovation Will Change the EV Market
Setting the pace in electric mobility, BYD is now launching a 1,000 kW fast-charging revolution. With this enabling technology, charging time is reduced significantly from the earlier period when EVs were more novelty and thus impractical for regular usage. Also, by beating its way through Tesla by forging fast-charging technologies, BYD is fostering its position as a leader in the EV industry. With the imminent launch of the Han L and Tang L, as well as the growth of high-speed charging stations, this will usher in a new period of electric transportation where EVs charge as fast as conventional fuel cars. As BYD gears up for the rollout of its new EVs by April 2025, the world waits with bated breath to see what this revolutionary charging technology will mean for the future of electric vehicles.
