The new Audi R8 will be manufactured in Germany, where the previous models of R8 were developed and manufactured.
Engine Details
It is anticipated that Audi will use a 920hp, 4-litre V8 PHEV powertrain from the Lamborghini Temerario for the third-generation R8. Powered by a 3.8kWh rechargeable lithium-ion battery, three axial-flux electric motors provide the additional power to the Lamborghini V8, which alone produces 800hp.
The electric range extends only to 9.65 km. The time taken to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph is 2.7 seconds.
Old Audi R8 engine and spaceframe details
The R8, which made its worldwide debut in 2006 and continued until 2024, came with either a V8 or V10 engine (both naturally aspirated) that was renowned for its high-revving nature. Given that the Lamborghini’s flat-plane crank V8 reaches its peak power between 9,000 rpm and 9,750 rpm with a redline of 10,000 rpm, a sound reminiscent of the previous R8 powerplants is anticipated.
25% stronger spaceframe
The next-gen Audi R8 will use Temerario's aluminium spaceframe, which has a torsional stiffness that is 25 percent greater than that of its predecessors, which shared platforms with the Lamborghini Gallardo and Huracan. It is asserted that this frame is tougher, even though it uses only half the structural components of the previous spaceframe.
Conclusion
The return of the Audi R8 in 2027 marks an exciting new chapter for the iconic supercar. With Lamborghini’s powerful 920hp hybrid V8 engine under the hood, the next-gen R8 promises a blend of electrified performance and high-revving excitement reminiscent of its predecessors. Enhanced by a significantly stronger aluminium spaceframe, this new model is set to push the boundaries of performance while staying true to the R8’s legacy. As Audi embraces hybrid technology, the 2027 R8 is shaping up to be a thrilling evolution of the brand’s flagship supercar.
