4 Affordable Sedans Launching Soon in India: Tata Tigor, Slavia, Virtus and Tigor EV
  • Despite massive market shifts toward SUVs, leading automakers are investing heavily in updating their sedan portfolios to capture driving enthusiasts.

  • The upcoming launches cover both entry-level commuter segments and premium midsize models, introducing modern tech and updated automatic gearboxes.

Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, sedans continue to hold a strong appeal among buyers who value comfort, driving dynamics, and fuel efficiency. To keep the segment competitive, several leading carmakers are preparing to launch updated and feature-rich affordable sedans in India.

From refreshed styling and modern technology to improved interiors and proven powertrains, these upcoming models are expected to arrive before the end of 2026 and offer buyers more choices in the compact and midsize sedan segments.

Tata Tigor Facelift: Expected Design and Features

Tata Motors is preparing a comprehensive facelift for the Tigor, giving the compact sedan its biggest update in recent years. Patent images suggest the new model will borrow several styling cues from the recently updated Tiago.

Expected highlights include slimmer LED headlamps, a redesigned front bumper, refreshed alloy wheels, new LED tail lamps and a more premium cabin. Inside, the sedan is likely to feature a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless charging and a 360-degree camera.

Mechanically, the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and CNG powertrains are expected to continue unchanged. The facelift is expected to launch before the end of 2026.

Tata Tigor EV Facelift: Battery, Range and Expected Updates

The Tigor EV is also expected to receive a major facelift alongside its petrol sibling. While the overall silhouette is likely to remain familiar, the electric sedan could feature a redesigned front fascia, updated LED lighting, new alloy wheels and a refreshed rear design.

The cabin is expected to adopt several upgrades from the Tiago EV, including a larger infotainment display, digital instrument cluster and improved connectivity features.

Reports suggest the facelift will continue with the existing 26 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed driving range of around 315 km on a full charge.

Skoda Slavia Facelift: Design and Engine Updates

The Skoda Slavia is also due for its first major mid-life update. Test mules indicate revised LED headlights, redesigned bumpers, new alloy wheels and updated rear styling with connected lighting elements.

The cabin is expected to receive a larger digital instrument cluster, refreshed interior trims and additional premium features. Under the hood, the Slavia is likely to retain its 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines, with reports suggesting the 1.0-litre variant could receive a new 8-speed automatic transmission.

Volkswagen Virtus Facelift: Expected Features and Powertrain

Volkswagen is also preparing a facelift for the Virtus, which shares its platform and mechanical components with the Slavia. The updated sedan is expected to receive revised LED headlamps, a redesigned grille, refreshed alloy wheels and updated tail lamps.

Inside, buyers can expect a larger digital instrument cluster, improved ambient lighting and upgraded cabin technology. Engine options are expected to remain unchanged, including the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI petrol engines, with the smaller engine likely to gain the new 8-speed automatic gearbox.

What Buyers Can Expect

Despite SUVs dominating the Indian automotive market, manufacturers continue to invest in the sedan segment with meaningful updates. The upcoming Tata Tigor, Tigor EV, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus facelifts are expected to bring refreshed styling, improved technology and enhanced value, giving buyers more compelling options in the affordable sedan segment.
