It seems like Gurgaon roads can never be at rest as a new wave of danger lurks in the streets of Gurgaon. Before the onset of 2023, the busy roads of Gurgaon witnessed the God of Death, Yamraj, walking down the streets. But the twist in the tale being Yama was out to save lives. Road accidents are one of the most prevalent causes of death, killing 1.5 lakh people every year.
Several car accidents are reported around the New Year. The Gurugram traffic police department, in collaboration with Park+, took the initiative to educate the public about traffic regulations. The Indian mythological character, Yama dev, inspired the idea to drive this awareness campaign on the 31st of December, 2022. A man dressed in the appearance of Yamraj was observed going down the street, advising people about safe road behaviors like wearing a seatbelt and obeying traffic signals. People were also informed about the risks of drunk driving or using mobile using driving. Yamraj was observed warning individuals about the dangers of drunk driving and advising them on how to avoid car accidents. Individuals were seen apologizing for their mistakes, and the "Yamlok ticket" concept was employed to warn people. Distribution of pamphlets on safe driving was another part of this campaign. Yamraj was reprimanding people for not following traffic laws, and the crowd was staring in awe as the scene unfolded in front of them. The traffic police also demonstrated the dangers of not using ISI-marked helmets. Many motorcycle riders were stopped and made aware of the harm of using a low-quality helmet by breaking it. Given the general lack of knowledge about traffic regulations and road safety, this campaign was a huge success. It educated people about safe driving and created awareness about the dangers of rash driving. This initiative of the traffic police and Park+ was a creative way of sensitizing the public about safe driving. It contributed towards making the year 2023 safer for individuals.
