Land Rover has set the automotive world abuzz with the launch of its most formidable vehicle yet, the New Defender OCTA. This latest addition to the legendary Defender lineup is a harmonious blend of extreme ruggedness and luxurious refinement, designed to conquer both urban landscapes and the wildest terrains with unprecedented ease. The New Defender OCTA, debuting at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11–14, promises to redefine the boundaries of performance and capability for 4x4 enthusiasts worldwide.
The New Defender OCTA is anchored on four bodies of work, at the core of which is number 4. The Truly magnificent 4-litre Twin Turbo mild-hybrid V8 engine boasts a whopping 467 kW and up to 750 Nm of torque. This powerhouse allows the OCTA to accelerate from a standstill to the first 100 km/h in as little as 4. 0 seconds and it is proclaimed as the most powerful Defender ever built. The OCTA uses the upside combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission which includes range gears on top of regular gears.
This dynamic capability is further enhanced by the revolutionary 6D Dynamics suspension system, which offers superior control and comfort. The system's hydraulic interlinking virtually eliminates body pitch and roll during on-road driving while maximizing wheel articulation for off-road prowess. This, combined with revised chassis components, makes the Defender OCTA a true master of both smooth highways and rugged trails.
The New Defender OCTA’s exterior design is a statement of power and sophistication. Its ride height has been increased by 28 mm, and the stance widened by 68 mm, providing superior ground clearance and stability. Extended wheel arches accommodate the largest tyres ever fitted to a production Defender, measuring 83.82 cm (33 inches) in diameter. These enhancements not only improve off-road performance but also give the vehicle an imposing presence on the road.
The Defender OCTA’s bold new look is complemented by redesigned bumpers that improve approach and departure angles, while tough underbody protection equips it for the harshest conditions. Exclusive to this model are unique grille designs that enhance under-bonnet airflow and a distinctive rear bumper with a four-exit active exhaust system.
Inside, the New Defender OCTA offers a sanctuary of comfort and innovation. The interior features all-new Performance Seats with supportive bolsters and integrated headrests, available in durable UltrafabricsTM PU, a material 30% lighter than traditional leather. The cabin is meticulously crafted, with options including a duo-tone Khaki and Ebony finish, exclusive to the Defender OCTA Edition One.
A standout feature of the interior is the Body and Soul Seat technology, developed in collaboration with SUBPAC and Coventry University. This system allows front-seat occupants to not only hear but also feel the music, creating an immersive audio experience. Additionally, six wellness programs are available to enhance relaxation or cognitive responses during drives.
The Defender OCTA is equipped with advanced technologies that elevate its off-road performance. It introduces the OCTA Mode, the first-ever performance-focused off-road driving mode for a Defender. This mode optimizes the vehicle’s settings for ultimate control and confidence on loose surfaces, including a unique Off-Road ABS calibration for superior braking performance.
Land Rover’s signature Terrain Response modes are also present, providing tailored settings for Sand, Mud and Ruts, Grass Gravel Snow, and Rock Crawl. These modes, coupled with the innovative 6D Dynamics system, ensure that the Defender OCTA is prepared for any adventure.
The New Defender OCTA Edition One, available in the first year of production, boasts a curated specification with exclusive features. It includes a new Faroe Green paint option, Khaki and Ebony interior with seamless Knit finishes, Chopped Carbon Fibre detailing, and 50.80 cm (20-inch) forged alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres.
Orders for the New Defender OCTA will open soon, with an indicative starting price of ₹265 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the standard model and ₹285 Lakhs for the Edition One in India.
Mark Cameron, Managing Director of Defender, highlights the OCTA’s capabilities: “With New Defender OCTA, we have unlocked the full potential of Defender. It represents the pinnacle of performance and capability, embodying the essence of toughness and luxury.”
As the New Defender OCTA prepares for its public debut at Goodwood, it stands as a testament to Land Rover’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the realm of high-performance, all-terrain vehicles. The OCTA is not just a vehicle; it’s a promise of unparalleled adventures and unrivalled luxury.
