Toyota Vellfire Rival; Fourth-Generation Nissan Elgrand Unveiled

At the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, Japanese carmaker Nissan unveiled its brand-new fourth-generation Elgrand. The third quarter of 2026 is when it is expected to debut in Japan, with other markets to follow. Targeting the luxury market, this huge multipurpose vehicle (MPV) is expected to compete with competitors like the Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Alphard.

Highlights of the design and exterior

The Hyper Tourer idea served as the inspiration for the new Elgrand's daring, futuristic design. It has pixel-style LED components built into the fascia and a broad light bar up front.

There are still sliding doors for rear access, and the side profile is tidy. A full-width LED light strip and simple styling at the back give it a contemporary look.

Comfort and Interior Features

The interior of the cabin has been greatly improved. The dashboard is dominated by two 14.3-inch screens and a simple center console with gear-selection buttons rather than a stalk.

Captain chairs with electronic modifications, such as leg-rest support, are available in the second row to improve comfort for high-end patrons. Higher trim levels also come with a 22-speaker Bose sound system, which includes speakers in the front headrests.

Technology and Powertrain

Nissan's third-generation e-POWER hybrid powertrain, which employs an internal combustion engine as a generator for the electric drive, will power the Elgrand. It also makes use of the upgraded e-4ORCE electric all-wheel drive technology for the first time. By lowering pitch during acceleration and deceleration, this system makes use of a rear electric motor to enhance ride comfort.

Additionally, the model has the most recent ProPILOT sophisticated driver assistance system, which can facilitate hands-free driving in specific situations.

Positioning and Launch

The Elgrand will go on sale in Japan by the third quarter of 2026, according to Nissan. A worldwide rollout or a launch in India has not yet been confirmed. The car is positioned squarely against competitors like the Toyota Vellfire and other high-end MPVs, catering to consumers looking for premium MPV size, luxurious features, and cutting-edge hybrid technology.

What this means for purchasers

The new Elgrand presents new competition for markets where demand exists for large premium MPVs. Business customers, wealthy families, and corporate fleets may find its improved technology, hybrid drivetrain, and luxurious cabin appealing. Although localization, pricing, and market timing will be crucial, the introduction of this model may indicate Nissan's greater focus on the luxury sector for consumers in India and other markets.
