Toyota Innova Hycross Gets AVAS Safety Feature, Prices Remain Unchanged
Toyota has introduced an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) for the hybrid variants of the Innova Hycross. This feature enhances pedestrian safety without affecting the MPV’s pricing.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has rolled out a new safety feature for the hybrid variants of its popular MPV, the Innova Hycross. The new Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) is now available in the VX, VX (O), ZX, and ZX (O) variants.
Designed to improve pedestrian safety, AVAS emits a sound at low speeds, alerting people to the presence of the vehicle—particularly useful for EVs and hybrids that run silently in electric mode.
Despite this addition, Toyota has not revised the prices of the hybrid variants, keeping the Innova Hycross just as competitive in its segment.
The Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) is a safety feature commonly found in electric and hybrid vehicles. Since these cars operate silently at low speeds, there’s a risk that pedestrians, cyclists, or other road users may not hear them approaching.
AVAS helps reduce accident risks by generating a soft alert sound, ensuring those nearby are aware of the vehicle’s movement.
This system is particularly crucial in urban areas where pedestrians and vehicles share the road closely. Toyota’s decision to introduce AVAS in the Innova Hycross hybrid variants aligns with global safety standards, reinforcing its commitment to enhanced road safety.
The Toyota Innova Hycross is offered with two engine options:
2.0-litre petrol engine (Hybrid)
Power: 184hp (combined output with electric motor)
Transmission: eCVT automatic
Claimed Mileage: 23.24 kmpl
Available in VX, VX (O), ZX, and ZX (O) variants
2.0-litre petrol engine (Non-Hybrid)
Power: 172hp
Transmission: CVT automatic
Claimed Mileage: 16.13 kmpl
Available in G and GX variants
The AVAS feature is exclusive to the hybrid variants, further distinguishing them from their petrol-only counterparts.
The Innova Hycross has been a game-changer in the MPV segment, offering strong hybrid technology that balances performance with fuel efficiency. The introduction of AVAS further cements its position as a safe, modern, and feature-rich MPV.
With no price hike despite the addition of a new safety feature, the Innova Hycross remains an attractive choice for families, fleet operators, and urban commuters looking for a spacious, fuel-efficient, and safety-conscious MPV.
Toyota’s move to equip the Innova Hycross with AVAS aligns with global EV and hybrid vehicle regulations, ensuring enhanced safety without additional costs.
