Toyota Fortuner Sees Rs 68,000 Price Hike, Variants Trimmed, New Hybrid Tech Added

In a surprise move after launching the new mild-hybrid variants of the Fortuner, Toyota India increased prices across Fortuner variants by as much as ₹68,000, discontinued variants, and added one new exterior finish (Platinum White Pearl). The price changes take place on both petrol and diesel variants of the Fortuner, including the more premium Legender variants.

Price Hike and Variant Restructuring

Toyota has adjusted the pricing of Fortuner variants, meaning the Petrol 4x2 AT is priced at ₹36.05 lakh, an increase of ₹68,000 from the original price. Date diesel variants, both Fortuner and Legender, have received a more modest price increase of ₹40,000.

In more significant changes, Toyota has eliminated the Diesel 4x4 AT and Legender 4x4 AT, which will now not be available, in favor of Neo Drive mild-hybrid variants. The resultant total variants will now be reduced from 11 to 9.

Buyers who want the Platinum White Pearl will have to fork over an additional ₹15,000.

Mild-Hybrid Tech and Features

The new 48V Neo Drive mild-hybrid, which has taken the place of the diesel 4x4 AT. These new variants will boast 48V hybrid and support engine start-stop to improve fuel usage.

Other features and improvements include a 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone charger, and Driving mode options for Mud, Sand, Rock, Dirt and Snow. However, some may be disappointed to learn they do not have the once-offered, front-seated ventilation of regular Fortuner.

While the ₹2 lakh premium over the diesel 4X4 AT variants is substantial, Toyota is marketing the new hybrid models as a more technologically advanced yet environmentally responsible option for consumers.

As the SUV market continues to reshape, Toyota's newest endeavor seems focused on keeping the Fortuner relevant and next generation aware, albeit at a slightly higher price point with fewer variance in options.
