Tata Curvv vs Citroen Basalt: Which Coupe-SUV is Faster?
Even though the Citroen Basalt isn't rated as powerful on paper, it surprises by being the quicker car in terms of acceleration. It does the 0-100kph dash in 11.05 seconds, which is nearly a second quicker than the 11.96 seconds taken by the Tata Curvv.
The Basalt also has the edge at all speeds of 20kph, 40kph, 60kph, and 80kph, making it the quicker car off-the-line. This might be because the Basalt is a lighter car, even though there are no official kerb weight figures available.
Tata Curvv, however, clears the air when it comes to in-gear acceleration. It goes 20-80kph in 9.17 seconds, which is 1.71 seconds quicker than the Basalt. The difference becomes greater in the 40-100kph run - an 11.12 seconds on the Curvv going to still waiting for a whopping 3.39 seconds by the Basalt. Therefore, it shows that the Basalt stands well when you want a quick getaway, but the Curvv has a good mid-range performance, giving it a better edge when it comes to overtaking.
Both SUVs were put through their paces as per consistent controlled conditions using a GPS-timed recording device. Here, the tyre pressures were set according to manufacturer recommendations and fully fuelled vehicles too. Each test was conducted with two bodies so that repeated trials would result in consistent and reliable data.
The manual variations of Tata Curvv with the 1.2-litre TGDI engine have a price range of Rs 14.17 lakh to Rs 17.67 lakh. Whereas, the Citroen Basalt is pretty affordable with its turbo-petrol manual variants, which offer prices between Rs 11.77 lakh and Rs 12.70 lakh. While the Basalt nips off faster, it's the Curvv that wins in rolling acceleration, making both compelling SUVs based on driving needs.
