Skoda has officially announced that its new sub-four meter compact SUV will be named the Kylaq, and it's slated to hit showrooms by February 2025. This upcoming model is expected to be unveiled by the end of 2024, with production beginning shortly thereafter. Anticipation is building for the Kylaq's price announcement, which is likely to occur at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo, scheduled for the second week of January 2025.
The Kylaq is the third vehicle to emerge from Skoda's India 2.0 programme. It will be powered by Skoda's 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, delivering 113bhp and 175 Nm of torque. Buyers will have a choice between a six-speed manual transmission (MT) and a six-speed automatic transmission (AT), providing options for both driving enthusiasts and those seeking convenience.
Design-wise, the Kylaq shares many elements with the Skoda Kushaq, maintaining a similar aesthetic up to the C-pillar. Beyond that point, the vehicle has been shortened to fit within the sub-four meter category, making it eligible for certain tax benefits in India. Despite its compact size, the Kylaq is expected to retain much of the premium interior and feature list found in the Kushaq, positioning it as a high-end option in the compact SUV segment.
The Kylaq will enter a competitive market, going head-to-head with established models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Fronx, Maruti Brezza, Toyota Taisor, and Mahindra XUV 3XO. With its advanced engineering and premium features, the Kylaq aims to carve out a niche in this crowded segment.
The launch of the Skoda Kylaq marks another step in Skoda's ongoing efforts to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, particularly in the rapidly growing compact SUV segment.
