Skoda Kylaq Production Started: Test Drives and Deliveries from January 2025

Introduction: Skoda Kylaq Enters Production in India

Skoda India has officially started the series production of its smallest SUV, the Kylaq. The production of Skoda Kylaq is running at its Chakan plant in Pune. The Kylaq aims to make a strong mark in the compact SUV segment, with an aggressive price starting at Rs. 7.89 lakh,

Alongside this milestone, Skoda has increased its production capacity by 30% at the Chakan facility to meet the expected high demand for this highly anticipated model.

Platform and Pricing: Built for India

The Kylaq is based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform, which underpins other successful models like the Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun, and Virtus. This localisation enables competitive pricing while maintaining Skoda's hallmark quality. With bookings already surpassing 10,000 units since opening on December 2, the Kylaq has quickly gained traction among Indian customers.

The first batch of the Kylaq consists of 33,333 units, with deliveries slated to begin on January 27, 2025, coinciding with its showroom availability. Skoda plans to produce 50,000–70,000 units of the Kylaq annually, translating to a monthly production target of 4,000–5,800 units.

Chakan Plant Expansion: Increased Production Capacity

To accommodate the Kylaq, Skoda has made significant investments at the Chakan plant, increasing its yearly production capacity by 30%. The plant can now produce up to 2.55 lakh units annually, enabling Skoda to manufacture the Kylaq alongside models like the Kushaq, Taigun, Slavia, and Virtus.

Furthermore, a 10% increase in the supplier base capacity ensures the timely procurement of components, improving the overall efficiency of the production process.

Booking and Delivery Updates

The entry-level variant of the Kylaq has already seen 3,000 units sell out in the first batch. Deliveries of the first 33,333 units will conclude by May 2025, with customer test drives commencing around the launch date. Skoda will also showcase the Kylaq at the Bharat Mobility Show (Auto Expo 2025) in New Delhi, which starts on January 17, providing customers a closer look at this feature-packed compact SUV.

Conclusion

The Kylaq’s competitive pricing, localisation strategy, and robust production plans make it a strong contender in the compact SUV market. As it prepares for its debut, Skoda is poised to strengthen its foothold in India and other export markets.
