NHAI clarifies on false FASTag deductions and more information on it

The NHAI has fined toll collectors in at least 250 cases as part of its crackdown on "false" deductions from FASTag wallets. IHMCL, the road authority's toll management organization, has begun charging a fine of Rs 1 lakh for each infraction.

Number of cases reduced by almost 70 %

Approximately INR. 30 crore FASTag transactions occur at all plazas on the national highway network, and the frequency of such incidents has decreased by approximately 70% as a result of this hefty penalty. Currently, 50 of these real complaints reach IHMCL each month.

Users report instances of false toll deductions

In addition to complaining to IHMCL, several users have moved to social media to draw attention to incidents of fraudulent toll deductions from their FASTag wallets. “Each case is carefully reviewed, and customers who are the victims of incorrect deductions can make a complaint by dialing 1033 or sending an email to falsededuction@ihmcl.com.

Additionally, chargebacks are promptly given to the consumer if a complaint regarding such a deduction or improper manual transactions is proven. Furthermore, the offending toll operator faces a penalty of Rs 1 lakh," a senior IHMCL official stated.

Conclusion

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken strong measures to curb false FASTag deductions, ensuring that toll operators are held accountable for errors. With fines of Rs 1 lakh per violation and a dedicated complaint redressal system, the number of such cases has significantly reduced. While occasional incidents still occur, the availability of chargebacks and strict enforcement has improved transparency and trust in the FASTag system. Users are encouraged to report discrepancies to IHMCL through the helpline or email to ensure timely resolution and maintain the integrity of electronic toll collection.
