Mercedes-Benz India has officially commenced series production of the new E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) at its Chakan plant, just ahead of the anticipated price announcement on October 9. Customers can expect deliveries to begin in time for Diwali.
Right-Hand Drive Layout: India is the exclusive market where the Mercedes E-Class LWB is offered in a right-hand drive configuration. This model marks the second generation of the E-Class tailored specifically for Indian consumers.
Extensive Testing: The new E-Class LWB has successfully obtained its type approval certificate from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI). It has undergone rigorous testing at various locations in India, including Pune, Chennai, and Indore, in addition to tests conducted in Germany and Spain.
Design and Dimensions: The new generation E-Class is 13mm taller, 14mm longer, and features a 15mm increase in wheelbase compared to its predecessor. Notable design elements include the innovative Superscreen layout, a premium 4D surround sound system developed by Burmester, and a rear backrest that reclines between 26 and 36 degrees, offering more comfort than the outgoing model.
At launch, the Mercedes E-Class LWB will offer two 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines:
Turbo-Petrol Engine: Producing 204hp.
Diesel Engine: Generating 197hp.
Both engines are equipped with 48V mild hybrid systems that provide an additional 23hp and 205Nm of torque, enhancing overall performance. These engines are paired with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The starting price for the new E-Class LWB is projected to be around ₹82 lakh for the petrol variant. This places it at approximately ₹10 lakh above the LWB variant of the BMW 5 Series, intensifying the competition in the luxury sedan segment.
With the production of the new E-Class LWB now underway, Mercedes-Benz India is poised to reinforce its stronghold in the premium automobile market, offering a combination of luxury, performance, and unique features tailored for Indian consumers.
