MG Windsor EV Hits 20,000 Sales in Just 6 Months: A New Benchmark for Indian EVs

It has made quite an entry into the compact electric interior market in India: a part of its electric vehicle arm - the MG Windsor EV- sold over 20,000 units in six months flat from its launch in September 2024.

The Windsor, now certified, is therefore the fastest-selling EV resident in India and promises to slowly build sustainable mobility adoption in India.

BaaS Model: Game Changer in EV Ownership

The BaaS model was applicable for the first time to the Windsor EV and thus made it the first-ever model by MG. Buyers could now enjoy a discount on the entry price of the car by Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for going this route without having to purchase the battery.

Electric vehicle buyers who want the conventional model get the entire package at Rs 13.99 lakh. The Windsor thus appeals more to budget drivers in cities than those owning electric vehicles for the first time.

Consumer-Centric Constructs Propelling Sales Growth

Windsor is a winner because, according to Rakesh Sen, Director- Sales & Marketing, JSW MG Motor India, it has incredible value for money. "Customers rave futuristic looks, intelligent technology features, and a roomy cabin-everything green and economical driving," he said.

The Windsor meets the contemporary EV buyer from every angle-from premium styling, with its intelligent user interface, to practical driving range.

Shaping the EV Revolution in India

But it is sales that make a tale for Windsor EV; it has a snazzy story transforming things within the price and ownership dimensions as democratized access to EVs in India. The pace with which it sold demonstrates a strong product-market fit, especially in the midrange electric, where choices are always much more narrowly defined.

Conclusion

Forward-looking into the very fast-changing world of EVs, not just turning a profit but setting benchmarks is the speed at which the MG Windsor, now counting 20,000 in number, matches the commercial interests with those of social responsibility. That number stands as a testament to the pace of change in India as it heads towards electric mobility-led by the consumer, motivated by models that prove to be at once economical and innovative.
