The Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC India launch is set for November 4, with local assembly in India.
It will be sold only in the 400 4Matic variant, with a 94 kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 715 km (WLTP).
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the Electric GLC will launch in India on November 4. The luxury electric SUV will be locally assembled in the country. Mercedes says this makes it the fastest a global model has reached India in CKD form, arriving within six months of its international launch.
CKD stands for completely knocked down, which means the car is brought in as kits and put together locally. Mercedes says the Electric GLC will follow this route.
For India, the SUV will be offered only in the 400 4Matic variant. The India-bound car will use the standard 2,972 mm wheelbase. Mercedes will skip the long-wheelbase version sold in China, which adds 55 mm between the axles.
The Electric GLC 400 4Matic uses a 94 kWh battery pack. Mercedes claims a range of up to 715 km on the WLTP cycle. This is a claimed figure, so real-world range may differ.
A dual-motor setup provides all-wheel drive as standard. The combined output is 483 bhp and 800 Nm. This is enough for a 0 to 100 kmph time of 4.3 seconds, even though the SUV's kerb weight is over 2,500 kg. Rear-wheel steering also comes as standard.
The Electric GLC gets Mercedes-Benz's newer star-pattern LED lighting signature and a large illuminated grille. AMG Line variants have sportier bumpers, and wheel sizes go up to 21 inches depending on the variant. One report says the AMG variant is unlikely to come to India, at least initially.
Inside, the highlight is a 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest display Mercedes-Benz has fitted to a car so far. It joins the driver's display, the central touchscreen and a passenger screen into one continuous unit. It runs a newer version of MBUX with a built-in AI assistant.
Mercedes-Benz has also brought back physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel and centre console. This moves away from the touch-heavy controls common in most EVs.
Mercedes-Benz has not announced the price. Given the local assembly, the SUV is expected to be priced between ₹80 lakh and ₹85 lakh, ex-showroom. This is an expectation, not a confirmed figure.
Once launched, its most direct rival will be the BMW iX3. That model is expected to reach India next year in long-wheelbase form.
To sum up, the Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC will launch in India on November 4 as a locally assembled EV. It will be sold only as the 400 4Matic, with a 94 kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 715 km on the WLTP cycle. Official pricing will be known at the launch.
