Mercedes-Benz has launched the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E 53 in India, bringing its high-performance E-Class sedan to the market with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The new model is available in two versions: the AMG E 53 Performance Edition, priced at ₹1.45 crore, and the AMG E 53 Racing Edition, priced at ₹1.48 crore (both ex-showroom).

The new performance sedan combines a 6-cylinder petrol engine with electric assistance, while also receiving AMG-specific styling and chassis upgrades over the standard E-Class.

Mercedes-AMG E 53: Engine and Performance

Under the muscular hood sits a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 21.2 kWh (usable capacity) lithium-ion battery pack. Power is routed to all four wheels through AMG's 4Matic+ AWD system and a 9-speed automatic transmission.

  • Total Power Output: 585 hp & 750 Nm of peak torque

  • 0 to 100 km/h Sprint: 4.0 seconds flat

  • Top Speed: 250 km/h (Performance Edition) and 280 km/h (Racing Edition with standard AMG Driver’s Package)

The E 53 operates with remarkable eco-conscious flexibility. It boasts a claimed pure-electric range of up to 100 km, making silent city commutes effortless. The 400V battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes using a 60kW DC charger, while an 11 kW AC charger completes a full 0–100% charge in 2.25 hours.

AMG E 53 Gets Sportier Design

The AMG E 53 gets several styling and chassis upgrades that set it apart from the standard E-Class. At the front, it features an AMG grille with vertical slats, a sportier bumper with larger air intakes and front fenders that are 11mm wider on each side.

The side profile gets flush door handles, AMG side skirts and 20-inch alloy wheels with red brake callipers. At the rear, a subtle boot-lid spoiler, diffuser and four round exhaust tips complete the sporty look.

For better handling and ride comfort, the sedan also gets several performance-focused upgrades:

  1. Adaptive air suspension

  2. Rear-axle steering for improved cornering and stability

  3. Electronic rear limited-slip differential for better traction

  4. AMG high-performance brakes

Interior and Features

Inside, the AMG E 53 combines the familiar E-Class cabin with AMG-specific touches. It gets a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a 14.4-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the Superscreen with a dedicated front passenger display is not available in the Indian model.

Other features include a Burmester surround sound system, head-up display, wireless phone charger, fingerprint sensor, heated front sports seats, ambient lighting with logo projection, automatic climate control and rear-door sunblinds.

Safety equipment includes a 360-degree camera, tyre-pressure monitoring and a driver-monitoring camera.

Price Comparison & Market Rivals

At a starting price of ₹1.45 crore (ex-showroom), the 2026 Mercedes-AMG E 53 positions itself as a compelling plug-in hybrid performance option in India.
