Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Set to Electrify Indian Roads This September
Maruti Suzuki is readying itself to enter India's rapidly expanding electric vehicle market with its eagerly awaited e Vitara, previously shown at the Auto Expo 2025.
Although originally expected to launch in May, Maruti has confirmed the e Vitara's 'level 1 all-electric SUV' models will be launched in September 2025. Clearly eyeing a mass-market product and a move into electric vehicles, e Vitara will be in direct competition with also anticipated competitors, Hyundai Creta Electric and the Tata Curvv EV.
There will be three variants of the Maruti e Vitara; Delta, Zeta, and Alpha, designed to appeal to the broadest number of customer users. It will come with two battery pack options, too.
The Delta will have a 48.8 kWh battery pack. The Zeta and Alpha will come with the bigger 61.1 kWh battery pack.
Here, most interestingly, both battery packs have the same peak torque of 192.5Nm, yet the smaller pack will develop a higher power output: 172 bhp compared to 142 bhp from the larger battery.
While the e Vitara global variant has 4WD capability, the Indian model will only be offered with 2WD (i.e., no 4WD). However, Maruti Suzuki reports a maximum driving range of up to 500km on a single charge, with variant-wise estimates not yet available.
Maruti's decision to cater its e Vitara to Indian conditions, especially by not offering 4WD, suggests a price-sensitive approach to maximize its audience in the domestic market. Maruti has marketed the e Vitara as a practical, cost-effective urban-style SUV to attract both first-time EV buyers and existing Maruti customers shifting to electric mobility.
More information, including pricing, will be made available closer to the launch date later this year, including the initial official variant-wise range.
