Maruti e Vitara: First BEV from Suzuki, Launching in 2025

Maruti Suzuki has revealed the production-ready eVX, which will be launched as the e-Vitara. The first fully electric vehicle (BEV) from the brand, the e Vitara will make its global debut in Europe and Japan before hitting the Indian market in summer 2025. The e Vitara will be produced at Maruti’s Gujarat plant, making it the first electric model to be produced for global markets from India.

Crucial Specifications

The Maruti e Vitara measures 4.23 meters in length with a 2.7-meter wheelbase, positioning it to compete with other compact SUVs in the future. It will offer two battery pack options:

The 4WD version will offer superior off-road capabilities, with the 49kWh FWD being a more accessible choice.

Built on Suzuki’s New Heartect-e Platform

The e Vitara is underpinned by Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, marking the beginning of a new era for Suzuki's electric vehicle range. This platform will be the base for future electric models like the Baleno, Jimny, Ertiga, and Swift, signifying Suzuki's commitment to expanding its BEV portfolio.

Interior Features and Design

The interior of the e Vitara features a minimalist yet functional design, with a one-piece display and a redesigned center console. The vertical air vents and an updated flat-bottom steering wheel add to the sleek, modern look. The cabin maintains Suzuki's signature design ethos, making the transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) to electric feel familiar and comfortable for existing Maruti customers.

Production and Global Launch

The e Vitara will be produced at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant for global markets, reinforcing India’s growing role in the global electric vehicle supply chain. While it will launch first in Europe and Japan, the e Vitara is expected to make its Indian debut in the summer of 2025, following its Asian market introduction at the 2025 Auto Expo in January.

The e Vitara will compete with several electric SUVs, including the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Honda Elevate EV, Mahindra XEV.e9, Hyundai Creta EV, and Kia Carens EV.
