Maruti Dzire Achieves 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating

Maruti Suzuki grabbed attention again, this time with safety. The well-known compact sedan, the Dzire, earned a 5-star rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP). It became the first sedan in India to be tested by the country's new crash safety authority.

The tested Dzire scored 29.46 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 41.57 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), marking a new standard in safety for sedans in India.

This comes after its 5-star rating in Global NCAP tests last year, strengthening the Dzire’s image as a safe vehicle.

Safety Across All Variants – No Compromise

The 5-star rating covers every variant of the Dzire, which is impressive. Bharat NCAP evaluated the entry-level LXI trim, and it provides identical safety features to the higher-end models. All versions of the Dzire come equipped with the same standard safety equipment.

Here’s what they include:

  • 6 airbags

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

  • Hill hold assist

  • ISOFIX child seat anchors

  • 3-point seatbelts with reminders

  • ABS with EBD, along with reverse parking sensors, a rear defogger, and overspeed alerts

This thorough list of features ensures buyers in any budget range get access to excellent crash safety.

Child Safety Scores Impress

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the driver and co-driver’s head, neck, and pelvis received a rating of 'good'. However, the chest and tibia areas were rated from 'adequate' to 'marginal'. The Dzire performed in the side impact and side pole tests. It achieved a 'good' rating in all areas except for chest protection, which was given an 'adequate' rating.

The Dzire achieved a remarkable COP score of 23.57 out of 24, supported by a perfect 12 out of 12 for CRS installation. The crash tests showed that the dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old scored almost full marks in both side and frontal impact protection. This reflects Maruti’s focus on keeping children safer in the car.

Top in Safety for Its Segment

The Dzire now with a 5-star rating, surpasses top competitors like the Tata Tigor, which holds 4 stars in Global NCAP. The Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze have not yet undergone Bharat NCAP testing. This achievement puts the Dzire ahead in India's compact sedan market not in terms of sales but also by leading in safety.
