March 2025 Car Sales: Hyundai Creta Tops as Swift, Punch Trail Close

It is true that a lot of interesting things happened in the Indian car market during March 2025. From the perspective of sales, it will very clearly emerge as a winner for Hyundai Creta, which has outsmarted contenders like Maruti Swift and Tata Punch. Hyundai has further benefitted because it regained that second place from Mahindra in the manufacturer rankings.

With 18,059 units sold, the Creta is the most popular SUV and the highest-selling vehicle in India for that month. This is a year-on-year growth of 10% and continues to validate Creta as an indomitable champion, even a decade post-launch. The recent EV launch has injected some fresh appeal into a very well-known nameplate.

The closest contender: Maruti Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift comes close, missing out to the crown by just 313 units, tallying 17,746 units sold. The sporty hatchback saw a good revival from February, in which it sold 16,269 units. This is a good 13% growth in sales on a year-on-year basis, indicating how well the Swift is holding its own, even in conditions where the demand for sport utility vehicles is rising.

Tata Punch Climbs Back to Third

After climbing from tenth place in February to third in March, the Tata Punch emerged as one of the biggest comebacks of the month by selling 17,714 units. The Tata Punch grew hugely from last month's sales of 14,559 units. With rugged styling, compact footprint, and affordable pricing, it is bound to be a favorite among urbanites.

Wagon R Stays Steadfast

The Maruti Wagon R, despite dropping down from second position last month, continues its deadly run with March sales figures at 17,175 units, up 5% over the Y-o-Y. It continued its tradition of being crowned the highest-selling car of FY2025, showing that practicality still has its ardent followers.

Ertiga Completes the Top 5

In fifth place is the Maruti Ertiga which sold a renewed 16,804 units, corresponding to a 13% growth compared to the previous year, attesting to the Ertiga's continued rule in the MPV segment. The Ertiga remains a hit with families and fleet buyers, providing good space, versatility, and fuel economy.

March 2025's sales figures tell tales of a highly competitive Indian scene with SUVs taking over, yet hatchbacks and MPVs are still appealing in their ways. With Hyundai and Tata Motors putting strong firepower into the competition, Maruti Suzuki will have to be constantly on its toes to keep up its kingdom status for decades.
