Mahindra Thar Roxx base variant explained in this article

The Mahindra Thar Roxx has just undergone a facelift, during which it received some additional features to increase the SUV's comfort and convenience level further. ICOTY 2025 award recipient Indian car comes in six general trims that include MX1, MX3, AX3L, MX5, AX5L, and AX7L.

For this story, we have shown you how the base model variant MX1 looks in actual photographs.

Front Side

The Thar Roxx fascia features a massive bumper, an imposing grille, and circular LED headlights starting from the base variant. It lacks some features, including front parking sensors and fog lamps.

Side

The MX1 version of the Thar Roxx comes on 18-inch steel wheels without cover and receives black door handles, an antenna on the left side of the fender, and black cladding above the wheels. It also receives side steps for easy entry and exit.

Rear

Rear profile between the Mahindra Thar Roxx variants isn't much different. The spare wheel is the most apparent difference, and it is replaced with an alloy wheel in the top variant, whereas sharp-eyed customers can spot the absence of the rear defogger on the base variant.

Some other features are rear parking sensors, LED taillamps in a rectangular enclosure, and a high-mounted LED stop lamp.

Interiors

All trims of the Thar Roxx are accompanied by a white and black dual-tone look, and additionally, for some trims, a fresh Mocha Brown has been introduced.

There are no differences in the design of the cabin in terms of things like circular AC vents, a 4-spoke steering wheel, and in-door handles inside the cabin in all trims, but in higher trims, there is the addition of silver accents surrounding the above-specified features.

There is a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment available from the base trim, which is upgraded to a superior version that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Features and Safety

The base model of the Thar Roxx receives an analogue dial with an MID cluster, controls on the steering, manual AC with rear vents, 4 speakers, and a Type-C USB port.

For safety, the MX1 trim receives 6 airbags, rear parking sensors, hill hold assist, and day/night IRVM. It lacks a 360-degree camera, a blind-view monitor, and Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) features like forward collision warning and lane keep assistance.

Price and Rivals

The lowest-spec model of the Mahindra Thar Roxx retails between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India). The Roxx competes with the likes of Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Jimny.

Conclusion

The Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 variant offers a rugged and capable off-roading experience with costs being contained by leaving out some premium features. Even being the base model, it still has basic safety features such as six airbags, hill hold assist, and rear parking sensors. Although it misses out on some comfort and convenience features found in the higher trims, it still has a touchscreen infotainment system and a bold, adventure-ready look. For those seeking a budget-friendly yet competent off-roader, the MX1 variant of the Thar Roxx offers a strong contender, going neck-to-neck with competitors such as the Force Gurkha and Maruti Jimny.
