Lotus Cars has officially commenced its operations in India with the launch of its first showroom, known as the Lotus Centre, located at the World Trade Centre in New Delhi. This significant milestone, celebrated on January 16, 2025, marks the British automaker's entry into the Indian luxury car market after over a year of planning and groundwork.
Strategic Expansion Plans
Lotus is strategically eyeing the specialty buyer market in India, focusing on high-net-worth individuals who seek exclusivity in their automotive choices. The company plans to expand its footprint cautiously, with intentions to establish additional showrooms in major metro cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru by 2025. There are also hints of future expansions into tier-1 cities across India, reflecting Lotus's commitment to growing its presence in this burgeoning market.
Currently, Lotus operates three service centers in Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The automaker is evaluating further expansion based on customer distribution and demand. Interestingly, Lotus has opted not to set specific sales targets for India; instead, it views 2025 as a year for assessing market dynamics as it positions itself as a bespoke manufacturer within the country.
Launch of New Models
In conjunction with the showroom opening, Lotus unveiled two highly anticipated models: the 2025 Emira sports car and the Emeya, an all-electric hyper-GT. The 2025 Emira lineup has been refreshed to include the high-performance Emira Turbo SE, which boasts impressive acceleration capabilities—0-100 mph in just four seconds—and a top speed of 290 mph.
The Emeya, on the other hand, represents Lotus's first foray into electric grand touring. With a dual-motor setup producing 905 bhp, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.8 seconds. This model features advanced aerodynamics with an active front grille and rear spoiler that enhance stability at high speeds.
Additionally, it offers rapid charging capabilities via a 400 kW DC charger, allowing for a battery charge from 10% to 80% in just 14 minutes.
Key Specifications of Emeya
Power Output: 905 bhp
Acceleration (0-100 km/h): Under 2.8 seconds
Top Speed: 260 km/h
WLTP Range: Up to 610 km on a single charge
Rapid Charging Capability: Charges from 10% to 80% in approximately 14 minutes using a 400 kW DC charger

Pricing Information
The pricing for these new models reflects their luxury status: the Emeya starts at approximately ₹2.33 crore (ex-showroom), while the Emira begins at around ₹3.22 crore (ex-showroom). Both vehicles will be available through Exclusive Motors, Lotus's official partner in India.
Future Outlook
Lotus is optimistic about its future in India, particularly as the local electric vehicle ecosystem continues to develop. The company believes that growth within this sector will generate demand for exclusive offerings among affluent buyers. Despite global fluctuations affecting EV demand, Lotus maintains that its niche market positioning allows it to remain unaffected by broader industry trends. As it embarks on this new chapter, Lotus aims not only to establish itself but also to redefine luxury electric mobility for Indian consumers.
