Kia Carens EV Spied in India Ahead of 2025 Launch

Kia is preparing for a significant update to its popular Carens MPV, and along with a cosmetic facelift, the automaker will introduce an all-electric version in the Indian market. Spy shots of the Kia Carens EV have recently surfaced, giving us a glimpse of the expected design and mechanical changes.

Kia Carens EV: Spy Shots Reveal Design Updates

As seen in the spy images, the Kia Carens EV will retain much of its core platform, body shell, and interior from the standard internal combustion engine (ICE) version. However, the EV will feature several visual differences, particularly at the front. The closed-off grille, similar to that on the Kia EV9, will replace the traditional open grille for a more futuristic design. The front and rear bumpers will also be redesigned, along with new alloy wheels that resemble those seen on other Kia EVs, like the EV3 and EV5.

Interestingly, the spy shots also show a modified suspension setup at the rear, and notably, the exhaust pipe assembly is missing, further confirming its electric-only nature.

Expected Powertrain and Platform

The Kia Carens EV is expected to share many components with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, which will hit the market before the Carens EV. Both models are built on a similar platform, and the Carens EV will likely borrow the 45kWh battery pack from the Creta EV. This battery will power a front-mounted electric motor, likely the same as that found in the entry-level version of the new-gen Kona EV sold overseas.

With these shared mechanicals, the Carens EV is set to deliver a solid performance and cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles in India.

Competition and Launch Timeline

Upon launch, the Kia Carens EV will be one of the few electric MPVs on the market, with its closest rival being the BYD eMax 7. Kia plans to globally debut the Carens EV in the first half of 2025, with the official Indian launch following soon after.

Before the Carens EV hits showrooms, Kia has several exciting launches planned. The new-generation Carnival and the EV9 flagship SUV will arrive in India on October 3, and the brand will also introduce the Kia Syros in early 2025.

With the upcoming Carens EV, Kia is set to further strengthen its position in the electric vehicle market, catering to families seeking an eco-friendly and spacious MPV.
