Karnataka Offers 50% Off on Pending Traffic E-Challans
  • Karnataka is offering a 50 per cent discount on pending traffic e-challan fines from June 21 to July 10, 2026.

  • The concession covers police-recorded violations raised before May 2026 and transport department cases between 1991 and 2022.

If you have been quietly ignoring a stack of unpaid traffic fines in Karnataka, now would be a good time to pay attention.

The state government has announced a 50 per cent concession on all pending traffic violation penalties, giving motorists across Karnataka a genuine, time-bound opportunity to wipe the slate clean at half the cost.

Who Qualifies and What the Scheme Covers

The order has been issued by Pushpa V.S., Under Secretary to the Transport Department. The concession applies to all unpaid traffic e-challan cases recorded by the police department prior to May 2026.

It also extends to pending cases held with the Transport Department, covering a remarkably long period stretching from 1991 all the way to 2022. That is a wide net, and it is safe to say a considerable number of vehicle owners across the state will find themselves eligible.

The Window Is Short, Mark Your Calendar

Vehicle owners can avail themselves of the reduced penalty between June 21 and July 10, 2026. That is a three-week window, and given how these schemes tend to generate a last-minute rush, settling dues earlier in the period would be the sensible approach.

During this time, motorists need to pay only half the original fine amount to have the case marked as settled.

Why the Government Is Doing This

Officials said the initiative aims to encourage the speedy disposal of long-pending cases while improving compliance with traffic regulations.

From the government's perspective, it is a practical trade-off. Chasing years-old penalties through enforcement is expensive and time-consuming. Offering a discount brings in revenue that might otherwise never be collected, while simultaneously giving offenders a straightforward path to compliance.

What an E-Challan Actually Is

For those unfamiliar, an e-challan is a digitally generated record created when a traffic violation is detected. The system electronically records the details of the offence and the corresponding penalty in the police database, ensuring transparency and minimising the possibility of manipulation.

The move towards digital enforcement has made it considerably harder for fines to disappear into paperwork, which is precisely why so many older cases remain on record and unresolved.

Officials have urged all vehicle owners with outstanding dues to use this period and clear their records before the deadline on July 10, 2026.
