India's Hyundai Tucson Discontinuation: Implications for the Market
In India, Hyundai has discreetly discontinued the Tucson by removing it from its website and stopping reservations.
Hyundai's strategic change towards newer models and electrification, as well as sluggish sales and pressure from the premium category, are the driving forces for this move.
The removal of the Hyundai Tucson from Hyundai Motor India's official website is interpreted as an indication that it will no longer be produced in India.
Bookings at numerous dealers have reportedly been halted, and Hyundai has not yet made an official announcement about a replacement.
It has been terminated in India due to declining demand, according to a report that surfaced on the internet.
In August 2022, the fourth-generation Tucson was introduced in India.
In India, the starting ex-showroom pricing was approximately ₹27.31 lakh.
Both a 2.0-liter gasoline (154 horsepower, 192 Nm) and a 2.0-liter diesel (183-190 horsepower, ~416 Nm) with automatic gearboxes were available; the top-diesel version provided AWD.
In India, the model's monthly sales had fallen to extremely low levels; it failed to achieve substantial volume numbers.
According to one publication, total transmissions were extremely low (359 units) between May and September 2025 and never exceeded triple digits per month.
The Tucson was positioned in the ₹30-40 lakh luxury mid-sized SUV market, which has few Indian buyers.
Such niches are under pressure due to the growing emphasis on value, localization, hybrid/EVs, and volume models.
Instead of specialized premium ICE SUVs, Hyundai's SUV lineup in India seems to be shifting more toward electrification and volume versions.
The discontinuance might provide room for a redesigned or next-generation Tucson, which is already under development worldwide, to be released in India at a later date, possibly with a plug-in or hybrid drivetrain.
