Hyundai Aura Dominates CNG Sales for Brand in Q1 FY26 with 89% Share.

Hyundai has reported that the Aura sedan leads its CNG vehicle sales for Q1 FY26, accounting for 89% of the cars sold. Although the brand did not reveal the demarcation between the petrol and CNG units, the latter was dominant in the Hyundai Aura lineup.

Overall, CNG made up 46% of Hyundai’s total vehicle sales in Q1, which is a major jump from the previous year, with 33% of sales.

Moreover, there was a 3% increase over Q4 FY25, when CNG accounted for 43% of total volumes. This steady growth is partly due to the introduction of Hyundai’s HY-CNG (dual-cylinder) variant.

Introduction of HY-CNG (dual-cylinder) variant

The HY-CNG (dual-cylinder) variant, introduced in September 2023 (Q2 FY24), has made the Aura more attractive, especially to fleet buyers. Hyundai’s dual-cylinder model comes with increased boot space, making it well-suited for commercial use.

Why fleet buyers prefer the HY-CNG variant:

  • More Boot Space: The split-cylinder takes less space than a single tank. Therefore, more luggage can be carried.

  • Ideal for Commercial Use: Extra luggage room makes it perfect for taxi operators, especially for fleet services.

  • Better Integration: Cylinders that are fixed in the factory are safer and well adjusted to the boot space, ensuring optimum utility.

Conclusion

Hyundai’s strategy to introduce the Aura in CNG variants has been beneficial. Still, the majority of the brand’s sales are through their SUVs – 69% of Hyundai’s total volumes in Q1 FY26.

Despite the Aura having the major share in CNG sales, sedans make up only 13% of Hyundai’s overall sales in the market. This shows that most of the brand’s customers prefer larger body styles, especially SUVs.
