Riding high on the success of the revamped Hyundai Creta, the Korean automaker is gearing up to broaden its line-up by introducing two new versions of the popular midsize SUV in early 2025. Adding to the excitement, the Creta-based Alcazar three-row SUV is also set for a facelift.
The highlight of Hyundai's upcoming offerings includes the introduction of the Hyundai Creta EV, expected to hit the Indian market before March 2025. This move signifies Hyundai's push into the mass-market electric vehicle segment. The Creta EV promises a unique exterior styling, distinctive from the recently facelifted Creta, and is anticipated to share some interior features with the Ioniq 5. Equipped with a 45kWh battery pack supplied by LG Chem, it will boast a 138hp, 255Nm electric motor, aligning with the latest-gen Kona EV available overseas.
Addressing the EV landscape in India, Tarun Garg, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor India, acknowledges the need for catching up in the EV space and emphasizes the company's commitment to introducing more EV models. Garg envisions 20-22 percent EV penetration in the passenger vehicle market by 2030 and expects EVs to contribute significantly to Hyundai Motor India's sales by the decade's end.
The Creta-based EV is poised to debut in India at the end of 2024, with pricing announcements expected in the first quarter of 2025. Its rivals in the Indian EV landscape include the MG ZS EV, Maruti's upcoming eVX, and the Tata Curvv EV.
In another exciting addition to Hyundai's line-up, the Creta N Line is set to join the performance-oriented N Line series, following the footsteps of the i20 N Line and Venue N Line. Expected to launch early in 2025, the Creta N Line will feature exterior tweaks, N Line-specific red accents, gloss black elements, and faux-brushed aluminum details. The interior will boast an all-black theme, an N Line-specific gear lever, and a steering wheel with red stitching, providing a sportier look and feel. The powertrain is likely to include the new 160hp, 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, although the availability of a manual gearbox option remains uncertain.
Hyundai plans a facelift for its three-row Creta-based SUV, the Alcazar, completing the trifecta of launches. Slated for a mid-2024 debut, the Alcazar facelift will retain its existing powertrain options while receiving exterior and interior design updates akin to the refreshed Creta. Expectations include a split headlamp setup, a new front grille, a bumper redesign, and a connected tail-lamp setup positioned horizontally.
Hyundai's aggressive line-up expansion aims to capitalize on the success of the Creta and tap into diverse market segments, catering to the evolving preferences of Indian consumers.
