Honda is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated 0 Series SUV concept next month at the CES in Las Vegas. This revolutionary electric vehicle (EV) will mark the second addition to the futuristic 0 Series lineup, following the sedan prototype revealed earlier this year.
With production slated for 2026, the 0 Series SUV promises cutting-edge technology, sustainable performance, and a visionary design that sets a new benchmark for EVs.
The 0 Series SUV is built on a bespoke platform, designed from scratch to optimize efficiency, space, and performance. Honda has already shared technical insights into the platform, highlighting its compact e-axles and aerodynamic design. The platform allows for a smaller frontal area, contributing to improved aerodynamic efficiency and spacious interiors.
The powertrain options include:
Entry-Level Model: A 245hp rear motor with rear-wheel drive.
Dual-Motor Variants: Two four-wheel-drive versions featuring a 245hp rear motor paired with a 68hp front motor.
These combinations cater to diverse driving needs, from everyday commuting to performance-oriented experiences.
The 0 Series SUV will feature a nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery with capacities ranging between 80kWh and 90kWh. This advanced battery technology offers a competitive estimated range of 480km on a single charge, ensuring practicality and convenience for long-distance travel. Honda has also focused on innovation by developing an ultra-thin battery design that’s 8mm thinner than those used by competitors, enabling a lower center of gravity and more cabin space.
Honda has prioritized safety and performance in the 0 Series SUV with groundbreaking features:
Steer-by-Wire Technology: This system integrates seamlessly with suspension, braking, and regenerative systems to enhance handling and control.
Lightweight Aluminium Frame: Engineered for flexibility, the frame dynamically adjusts load distribution during cornering for improved balance.
Collision Impact Dispersion: The platform disperses collision impacts along the sides, reducing space needed for battery protection and ensuring passenger safety.
The Honda 0 Series SUV is a software-defined vehicle, capable of receiving over-the-air updates to unlock new features and enhancements. The SUV will support up to level-three autonomy, allowing drivers to engage in “eyes-off” activities in specific conditions. This is made possible through a sophisticated array of cameras, radar, and lidar sensors.
Honda’s Ohio plant will handle initial production of the 0 Series models, leveraging its ability to manufacture both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs on the same line. By 2028, Honda plans to establish a dedicated EV production facility and a battery manufacturing plant in Ontario, Canada, reinforcing its commitment to a sustainable future.
The unveiling of the Honda 0 Series SUV concept is a significant milestone in the company’s journey toward an electric and autonomous future. With advanced technology, innovative design, and sustainable performance, the 0 Series SUV is poised to reshape the EV landscape.
