Honda City CVT vs. Honda Elevate CVT: A Comparison of Real-World Performance
The Honda Elevate, Honda's debut compact SUV in India introduced in 2023, shares many mechanical components with the Honda City, including the same engine and transmission. To provide a comprehensive comparison, recent tests were conducted on the automatic CVT versions of both models to evaluate their real-world performance characteristics.
Under the hood, both the Honda Elevate and Honda City are powered by a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine producing 121 PS of power and 145 Nm torque. These models employ a Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) for seamless gear shifts during driving.
In performance evaluations, it was observed that the Honda City exhibited quicker acceleration, outpacing the Honda Elevate by 1.4 seconds in the 0-100 kmph sprint, with the gap slightly closing to less than 1 second in the quarter-mile run. Despite the City's initial advantage in acceleration, the Elevate displayed commendable braking performance, stopping nearly 4 meters shorter than the City when decelerating from 100 kmph and 2.6 meters shorter from 80 kmph. Notably, both vehicles feature front disc brakes, with the Elevate equipped with wider 215-section tires on 17-inch alloy wheels, while the City features narrower 185-section tires on 16-inch alloy wheels.
Factors contributing to the performance variations between the models include the Honda Elevate's heavier curb weight compared to the City, as well as the City's sedan design and aerodynamics potentially enhancing its acceleration. The distinct wheel sizes and weights of the vehicles delineate further nuances in their on-road handling and braking efficiencies.
Beyond performance metrics, the Honda Elevate and Honda City offer distinct pricing structures. The Honda Elevate ranges from Rs 11.58 lakh to Rs 16.20 lakh, while the Honda City is priced between Rs 11.71 lakh and Rs 16.19 lakh.
