The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will launch a FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025, in an effort to simplify the process of toll collection and minimize the expenses they have to incur while traveling on the highway regularly.
The pass that has to be bought for Rs 3,000 will allow the user to make up to 200 toll-free journeys or have a one-year validity which is earlier, whichever expires kicks in first, in possession of privately owned cars, jeeps and vans at designated National Highway (NH) and National Expressway (NE) toll plazas.
Vehicle owners will have to sign up with the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the NHAI website to activate the annual pass. FASTag eligibility and vehicle type will be checked in the VAHAN database first, followed by the system.
After verification, one would be able to go ahead and make the payment of Rs 3,000. The pass becomes activated in two hours upon successful transaction.
It should be mentioned that this pass is possible only for non-commercial vehicles. In the event that a commercial vehicle tries to pass through the pass, it will be made inactive automatically without any warning.

The annual pass will be applicable only on NH and NE fee plazas managed under the central government. It would not work at toll booths on state highways, city roads, or parking lots in local bodies. With such scenarios, FASTag will perform like normal, and regular toll rates will be charged.
Under the pass
Point-based plaza: Every crossing will be counted as one journey.
Closed toll systems: Entry-exit pairs are considered as single trips.
A FASTag will automatically revert to standard FASTag operation after the user accumulates 200 trips or one year of use. It requires users to again purchase the annual pass in case they want to enjoy the benefits of using the toll-free roads.
This project will save lakhs of commuters daily and who travel intercity in India laxity in financial terms and in time.
