Delhi To Ban Non-Electric 2-Wheelers From 2026 Under New EV Policy

Delhi government's new Electric Vehicles Policy 2.0 introduces unprecedented restrictions on conventional vehicle registrations, mandating EVs for third household cars, banning non-electric two-wheelers by 2026, and ending fossil fuel three-wheeler registrations from August 2025, with government fleets also transitioning to all-electric.

Not Cars, Delhi Government To Ban 2-Wheelers-2026!

The state government is already moving to stop buying new vehicles for the public, whether they be 4, 3 or even 2-wheelers. This will shock anyone, for nowadays, it is only the government that has taken rigorous actions toward reducing pollution.

Previously, the effects were aimed chiefly at car owners, but as if that were not enough, there's yet another very stringent rule that is affecting the new car-buyers and the 2- and 3-wheeler buyers' decisions as well! What's new as far as the Delhi vehicle ban is concerned?

Let us know about it, here.

Delhi Vehicle Ban: What Is So Upsetting?

Well, according to this new EV law, every third private car bought in a household of Delhi shall be an electric vehicle. Meaning, if there are already two ICE-powered cars, then the third has to be an EV.

As stated by this new regulation, three-wheeled fossil fuels must stop being registered from August 2025, and, coming 2026, the same prohibition will apply to non-electric two-wheelers!

All these changes are as per Delhi's Electric Vehicles Policy 2.0. These changes have been approved by Pankaj Kumar Singh and will now go before the cabinet.

As for the three-wheeler segment, all CNG auto rickshaws greater than 10 years will be mandatorily replaced or retrofitted with electric auto rickshaws within the policy lifetime.

Further, no registration for CNG-operated auto rickshaws or for any three-wheeler goods carrier will be entertained after August 2025, and likewise, no permits for CNG-operated autos will be renewed from that same date. All such permits will be substituted or reissued as only e-auto permits.

But What About Government Owned Vehicles?

This policy also puts stress on all waste collection vehicles under the ambit of Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other civic agencies to be converted into EVs in phases and achieve a 100% electric fleet. Further, some old ICE government vehicles could also be converted into EVs.
