BYD to deploy 1000 kW EV chargers in China to increase efficiency.

BYD recently rolled out high-capacity EV chargers with an output of up to 1,360 kW in China. The company aims to install more than 4,000 such chargers throughout the nation, enabling electric vehicles to be filled up as fast as it takes to fuel up petrol cars.

The 'megawatt flash-chargers' have the capability to add approximately 400km of range in five minutes to BYD EVs capable of accepting that amount of power. This is more than four times quicker than the standard chargers on Tesla's Supercharger network.

When it comes to India's EV charging infrastructure, we still have a long way to go before Indian EV users can enjoy the privileges of such high-intensity chargers. BYD India's newest addition features the Sealion 7, and the company also recently launched the Atto 3 in its MY2025 avatar.

Beginning with the updates, the Atto 3 in its 2025 form now receives a ventilation feature for the front seats and an all-black interior color scheme. Besides, the company asserts that it now receives an LFP battery. Importantly, more than 3,100 units of the model have been retailed in India since its launch.

Powertrain

Propelling the Atto 3 are 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh battery packs, respectively, with ARAI-tested ranges of 468km and 521km. The vehicle comes in three trims, viz. Dynamic, Premium, and Superior, at Rs. 24.99 lakh, Rs. 29.85 lakh, and Rs. 33.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom), respectively.

Conclusion

BYD's deployment of high-capacity 1,360 kW chargers in China is a major step forward in EV charging technology, significantly lowering charging times and increasing the convenience for EV owners. Though India's EV ecosystem is still maturing, BYD continues to enhance its lineup in the country with the addition of offerings such as the Sealion 7 and the refreshed Atto 3. With increasing adoption of EVs and the progress of charging tech, the future of e-mobility appears bright both internationally and in India.
